Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Haute Savoie - tips

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hey folks. So me and the family have found ourselves down in the Haute Savoie for the next couple of months (about 30 mins from Hirmentaz and Habere Poche). Was hedging our bets that slopes would open but as thats unlikely - whats the options in France (with a couple of boys - 8 and 10!). Alternatively - has anyone been making a trip across to Switzerland and back??

From Hirmentaz, go up and over the Vernaz to the Gorges du Pont de Diable, then carry on up to Le Biot and the Col Du Corbier.
It has 100% of lifts and 100% of runs open (ONE) Very Happy
It is open daily from 10-4 apart from Mondays.

There's also plenty of opportunity for free-riding:

Morgins is heaving at the moment if you're thinking of hopping over the border.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@WindOfChange, Thanks. Just looked up col du corbier. Any idea how they manage to have a lift open when no one else does?

@savoie stuck, Lucky you, that is a nice place to be in these difficult times.

Let's not make times any more difficult by bending the rules with "naughty" trips. Even suggesting that you might comes across as somewhat selfish and ignorant of both the situation around you and the purpose of restrictions designed to keep you and others around you safer.

@savoie stuck, Because its not a ski lift Smile
Its a multi-purpose transportation mechanism, for pedestrians, people with sledges, and people with skis and boards are also permitted to use it.
See officially, the resort is designated low altitude "Montagne Douce" which means non-lift served activities :
Fat biking, walking, raquettes, rando, X-Country, Dog Sleds, Joering (Skiing while being towed by a horse ), sledging etc....
Its just there happens to be an "espace ludique" which is a short slope for kids / beginners, this is officially not a piste either, but a play area.
You need to wear a mask on the lift and stay 2.5m behind the person in front.

Only one bloke and small child using it at the moment:

Earlier I might have said: hire touring skis and see the OFF-Piste thread "Ski Touring 2021, let's see your lockdown lines!". Now I'm not sure what rules apply.

If you stay in France you are not allowed to ski in Switzerland - and the authorities will not be lenient, you will be forced to stay at home when caught.

So either stay in Verbier and enjoy the scenery and open lifts - or ski in the French side of Chablais without lifts: xc, touring.
