Big and Tall guy skiing eastern US hardpack/groomed. Looking at the Blizzard Brahma 82 but thinking maybe go up to 88 since I'm so heavy and tall.

@mobyhex, what are you hoping to gain by going wider, if you are skiing hard (often icy) pistes? Wouldn't a beefy piste ski be a better tool for the job?

If a choice between those skis - I would choose the 82.
If staying on groomed terrain - Would you not consider a Piste Ski?

I've heard of going longer because of being heavy and tall, but wider?
Brahma 88 is at the more demanding end of the market, as it prefers going faster and will beat you up if you let your technique slip. I found them tiring being on them all day as an intermediate. While this was an older model, I wouldn't think they've changed too much.
Don't know how the 82 stacks up.

Spyderjon who knows his stuff recommend the slimmer ones to me when I asked. I was like you heavy & thinking wider would spread the load better.
Of course being a man I never listened and got rossignal experience 88 but I did listen to advice about length

Wider skis are good for soft snow/ powder where the width of the base is in contact with the snow,. On hardpack you ski on the edges, and the wider the ski the more difficult it is to keep the skis on edge.
Out of curiousity why are you looking at all mountain skis if you only want to ski on piste?

If it’s primarily for piste go below 82 especially if you have other skis in your quiver.

To answer your question, 82. But I'd also suggest a narrower piste ski. Big guy on ice sounds like a GS race ski almost, if you're good enough to stay on 'em.

... totally get where you're coming from. Would submit that unless you reall want and can handle a race ski, something like the Brahma 82 (on paper) would seem worth a good look at.

Staying on hard packed / groomed as the OP says, fixed on Blizzard? Maybe consider Blizzard Firebird Competition 76, dependent on ability, skiing style of course.

I'd say go for something shorter radius than a full fat GS race ski but could go for 20m ish

@jedster, I don't disagree, really depends on how fast the OP skis on those rinks they have back East. As I suggested, if he's on his skis most of the time he can use what they deliver....if not, he'll be in the back seat all day...
