Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Europe probably will not agree on the closure of winter sports regions.

Either way, it is clear that ski tourism has no future.

Corona is the opportunity for change !!

@Charlieehr, essentially about climate change and how skiing is dependent on snowmaking. I think ski areas know this well enough. It's not a short term problem, but it will be a medium and long term problem of course, and it's why mountain areas are working hard to encourage year round tourism for all other types of mountain activities.

@Charlieehr, basically says skiing has no future due to climate change. Lots of damage being done by artificial snow making. Snow line will rise to 1300m, anything below that not sustainable. Conclusion, give up skiing...
Not everyone will agree!

@Charlieehr,

Just a Troll, you'll get used to the inane posting from that i.d. when you've been here a while. Can safely be discounted.

Usually posting anything it feels contentious to the general forum topic, and seems to think no one else is capable of seeing any news items that come up in general feeds, when most people are daily hosed down with things that other's think they should take notice of.

year round tourism for all other types of mountain activities

which has, I'd say, a very strong future. I've spent a lot of summertime in the Alps, including during some heatwaves when it was 40 degrees + in Albertville and far more pleasant up the mountain. And those lakes will become even more delightful......

There is nowhere near enough summer tourism to counter the loss of ski tourism in the European Alps.

Replacing a €400 lift ticket, €600 skis, and €1000 winter jacket with a €10 via ferrata and a €20 hiking stick don't compute.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Ebikes don't travel well (due to size, weight, and dangerous batteries).

Ebikes are rarely purchased inresort.

The pain of cycling uphill, and the dirt splattered downhill, make mountainbiking a niche sport, mostly for fat middle managers who want to look active and sporty.

Some French resorts estimate the total addressable market for summer tourism will never be more than 50% of the peak-winter market.

Bonus, rent them out for an even bigger profit!

Not much pain riding an e-Bike uphill. That’s kind of the point. Keep up

I don’t see too many fat middle managers riding the downhill trails here, although you’re welcome to have a go Very Happy

Well most of the winter market is a lot less than the peak-winter market. The focus of tourism will change, but it will remain significant.

I doubt many visitors buy their skis and jacket in resort. Ebikes are expensive yes, but so are regular mountain bikes , much more so than skis.
Lift passes are also purchased by Mountain bikers, which reduces or removes the pain of cycling uphill , much like lifts remove the pain of skinning up.
