As many have posted elsewhere Easyjet has started cancelling flights and whilst i don't want a debate on whether a ski weekend in January is still likely or unlikely does anyone have any suggestions of alternative airlines or routes home form Ischgl to Gatwick on a Wednesday in January .

@gwatts10, look at skyscanner from airports near Ischgl->LGW . Might be $$$ though. Train to Zurich then maybe? Innsbruck not that well served in comparison.

Is you outbound flight still going? Will probably get cancelled closer to the time which makes planning hard. You could try flight or train to Paris and Eurostar back.

@gwatts10, direct flight Innsbruck to LHR with BA might be most convenient and best value option to get back to London on a Wednesday in January.

Austrian normally has regular flights to LHR from INN via Vienna - done this a few times with family in tow and not too bad. Other option is to transfer to Munich. You can also get a train to Zurich from Landeck.

brilliant thanks it looks like there a few options we paid very little for original flights so maybe paying a bit more than usual for the flight home will be acceptable , yes outbound flight is still valid ( its a saturday ) so wont be booking anything until a bit closer to departure when the situation just might be a bit clearer

@gwatts10, train to ZRH and Swiss flight home.....you may not want a debate on the merits of a long weekend, I do think you are being very optimistic though, we’ve got 2 weeks provisionally booked mid January and not getting excited one bit, more likely the lifts won’t be running imv, and even if they are we won’t be allowed to enter AUT.

@gwatts10, easy tend to give you at least 2 weeks notice so I woulnd't be doing anything until at least then, if it was me ... and it being a Saturday wouldn't necessarily give me any additional confidence ... I'm afraid.

Well, I think it's always worth doing some contingency planning for getting the train all the way home. This to cater for the situation where the flights are so disrupted that you're on the train to somewhere distant anyway. When easyJet cancelled all flights to/from GVA one time, and we were already at the airport for our GVA>LGW flight, the alternative they offered us was - from Paris CDG! At which point we said that if we had to get the train to Paris, we'd obviously just carry on home by train anyway. Take a look at www.sbb.ch/en and have the app already loaded nto your mobile just in case. Then you can buy eTickets there and then if you've exhausted all the other options.
