Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Mid-layer for legs - Solved

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I changed to shell trousers a few years ago and have had my eye out for a decent pair of mid layer trousers for cold/slow days ever since.

It seems I'm not the only one:

https://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=129813

I bought a pair of these from Stellar Equipment before the PSB:

https://www.stellarequipment.com/product/m-guide-aerogel-hybrid-pants-blublack/

I really like them, do the job well. But they started to pill almost immediately, so after a few weeks skiing I emailed them a photo, and they at once said they'd replace them but unfortunately they were sold out. They offered me a refund if I sent the damaged ones back instead, but rather than be without I asked if they could replace them with the down ones:

https://www.stellarequipment.com/product/m-ultralight-down-pants-black/

They were happy to do this, and best of all didn't require the damaged ones back after all. They are still useable - they just look very odd! The down ones are seriously warm - I suspect I'll get more use out of them at home than skiing, but will be perfect if I'm skiing with learner friends.

Their customer service was top notch and easy.

I know a some Snowheads are using their outerwear too, it'll be interesting to see how it lasts.

The Stellar stuff looks pretty cool.

If anyone is looking for a cheap option, I've been using these and they are perfect.

Not as cheap as some of the other ones suggested but in fairness, I did pay a bit less than that for mine. Have taken them on loads of trips and no real signs of wear so a good buy IMO.

Those Stellar ones do look good but not at all cheap, I can understand for the down ones but not sure what justifies the price of the other ones?

If you're having to wear multiple layers on your legs to combat the cold just wear insulated salopettes.

not really how it works if you layer up with a shell outer that is 20k or 30k.
As you can adjust layers depending on the day's likely weather forecast.

Duh. If the day requires 3 layers because you wear shell pants, then put on the insulated ones. It's not rocket science us it ?

Then wear the uninsulated ones.

Just got delivered my new Stellar Aerogel Hybrid pants.
Sure I have not used them at the slope yet, but the fit is fantastic, the length is long enough, just above your ski boots also the pant leg is snug enough so you can easily put the ski sock on top of it, and the fit around waist, these pants will stay up, they do not fall. I have tried some other insulation 3/4 pants but these are really good compared to the others like Bergans Roros. If you are looking for 3/4 insulation shorts, you should really consider these pants. Very Happy Cool

Stellar... great find.

I am fine with 2XU compression tights + lightweight Patagonia mid-layer under my shells for 70% of days. Some days, I ditch the mid-layer, and on a few days, something warmer would be nice - I do like skiing in storms (good snow and fewer people).
