Hi all! Here's to hoping for a bumper 20/21 ski season, if it happens........
We've already had some snow, but it's since warmed up and as I write it's raining
But the main news is that the entire Hautes-Alpes has been placed under curfew from Saturday 24th October until Saturday 5th December, same as the other areas in France currently under curfew, ie bars/restaurants closing at 9pm, gatherings of more than 6 prohibited and people must stay at home within these hours......
Hopefully these measures will have the desired effect and we'll be able to open our doors for the start of the ski season, which is bizarrely the same day the curfew (currently) ends, Dec 5th

The peak looks like it will be in the New Year.... Some health professionals say March. That doesn't mean stuff won't be open but don't expect a quick return to normal.

Good day everyone!
Based on your previous experience, and regardless of Covid...is it really possible that pre-opening happens on Dec 5th? Forecast is not looking very promising

@Charlieehr, MetCheck 16 day forecast spews out a lot b*ll*cks at the further end of its range but high pressures are much easier to forecast than the intricacies of a series of low pressures. This morning it is forecasting mild weather pretty much till the end of the range so sadly I would be betting against a 5th of December opening which is especially disappointing after September and early October made the Alps look amazing

All the infrastructure and staff are in place, just need some cold temps for the snowmaking, sadly not looking good for the next 10 days or so.......
And then there’s Covid......

Getting cold now, -6 last night!
All rather moot now though in light of the government announcement that the lifts are to stay closed until early-mid January........
However, ski lift chiefs have written to Castex, not much help for tourists but works for me
"Ski resorts to be opened only for schools, clubs and season pass holders. This is the proposal of the mayors of Serre Chevalier. They wrote this Thursday to the Prime Minister "to suggest that Serre Chevalier could be at the heart of an experiment which would only allow clubs, schools and locals who bought their season pass before October 15 to have access to the ski area. ". The goal: to open part of the estate and therefore justify the hiring of seasonal workers because "to open on January 20 in a dry way, without having run our economic machine once is very risky"
Great if they pull it off, but not holding my breath..........

That would be amazing although I got my pass exactly on the 15th which was the last day of the sale the had...In that scenario, am I screwed ? @KenX,

@Arno, first lock-down 7th May

Over that side is also where we ski toured quite a few times last season as a result of numerous summer hikes trying to suss out routes.
Have to say using the Bachas webcam (link above) there's another route I should try which I actually hiked about four years ago.

Really need a guide for that, I've done that one and a better version of it, if you look at map and go Dome de Monetier then to the Pic de Dormillouse 3339m and then down the fabulous long Couloir Combe du Riou but you need logistics of being picked up at Ailefroid.
One of our slack country tours is off the Yret Chair down Montagnolle and then skin up Vallon de Grand Tabuc.

And have just seen that all the snow for next week has nigh on disappeared

I posted this in the Off Piste thread French Resorts to Ban ski touring, but thought it was relevant to post here as well.
So yesterday on FaceBook ESF Chantermerle https://www.facebook.com/esf.chantemerle/ posted a series of photos of them making a ski tour skinning track.
Traçage d’un nouvel itinéraire de ski de randonnée par l’ Esf Serre-chevalier Chantemerle - Chantemerle - Col du Prorel dans la forêt de mélèzes avec 1200 m de dénivelé.
Then there was a Press Release sent out by Serre Che Tourist Office yesterday,
So OH asked the Press Office again what the situation is/was .
Their reply below.
Indeed, access to the slopes is prohibited, so no one can ski or ski tour on the ski area at all.
So reading between the lines would seem that the Tourist Office are unaware of this move by the ESF that you can only ski tour in the domain with an instructor or guide, and if you re-read it, then you also need an instructor for other activities as well
