All very tight at the top today. Top 3 so far separated by only 0.06s. Italy with a good chance of their first medal?

Yes could be their first chance, but would not be surprised given the prowess of Gisin or Vlahova from further back to strike with their time difference, they will also have the advantage of a slightly smoother slalom course as well given the reverse start order
Though it really looks like it is Shiffrin's to lose going into the slalom

Worst pitch in living memory - that the Indians have scored over 600 on....

I preferred combined when it was DH and SL, seems like the current version makes it slightly easier for the more slalom leaning skiers.

He had done well on the Mens Super-G coming 4th - looks like Canada has a new rising star- they have been quiet following the departure of Jan Hudec and Manuel Osborne-Paradis from the circuit.

Luca Aerni might be good for the combined? Hes had a good few slaloms recently and he’s close to the leader.
And how many Szollos are there at these championships? I count three, is that a record for relatives at one WC?

The women's turned in to a bit of a non race in the end, as soon as Brignone was gone, it just left Shiffrin, Vlhova and Gisin, with no one else anywhere near.
The mens is basically over as well now, no one will get anywhere near the top now.
Agree with @SnoodlesMcFlude, the Super G plays too much in to the hands of the slalomers, especially the all rounders, as they then get to go first on the fresh course.

The course is now so cut up. Reminds me of when we found the race timing run near Ortesei and all gave it ago and even Tangowagen fell over

+2. This doesn't work. Instead of improving things the speed specialists have gone from little chance to no chance in the current format.
Perhaps contrived to remove it entirely and fit in more of the parallel farces....I mean races.

Was hard to watch Alexi lose the Gold Medal in the combined - but yes agree it did not make for very interesting viewing at all - I heard the commentators mention that there may not be any combined events next season with the Olympics being the only event.
Looks like Canada has a new rising star! Was amusing to see Mayer and Kriechmayer try the slalom skis on

Ah wasn't aware of that but makes sense after todays performance the super-combined does not work, I guess its added frustration for Alexis as he likely lost out on a medal that won't be up for grabs at the next WSC and also to go down in the history books as the last to get it. My understanding is though the AC is currently confirmed by the IOC for Beijing 2022.

Where there are constraints on the skiing racing programme due to Covid-19 it makes sense to give priority to the individual specialist events over the combined. However in a season without such constraints it would be sad to see the combined event disappear. The idea of having a combined event to determine a best "all-rounder" is an appealing one, however to be true to the original concept of encompassing the whole gamut of ski racing styles I'd argue that the original format of a downhill race and a slalom race best represents that.

She contravened rule “B 3.1.2.2.4 width of the shoulder of the ski” i.e. the width of the shovel, sounds a school girl error.

@Alastair Pink, Totally agree with you Buddy. As much as I like bog standard racing it's really exciting to mix it up. Why not pit the skills ....let's see who the best all rounder is. Tradionalist don't have to watch!

Is Dave Ryding competing in the Parallel slalom tomorrow? I can’t find a start list on the FIS website and the BBC website doesn’t list him as one of the GB (shd be UK) competitors.

@ster, I don't think they will publish the starting lists until after the qualification runs take place - there a 3 female, and 3 male GBR skiers qualifying for the event - Dave isn't one of them - I wonder if he will ski it though - he historically has on skied in the parallel team event and the city events

@extremerob, I guess if he doesn’t maybe he reckons its too close to the main slalom races to be doing and tiring himself out on several rounds of parallel?

I remember watching the combined event at Wengen either last season or the one before, and it was really interesting but that was downhill and slalom, and it definitely works better that way. I'm all for it in the original format

I wouldn't call it a "school girl error", she won't have manufactured the skis herself. I guess they could be an older pair that were made to a different specification.

It is Parallel GS tomorrow not slalom, wouldn't expect Dave Ryding to race in that.

Thanks, but just to point out that the combined event in the World Championships dates back to 1932, so it does have quite a long history!

No, Dave is not listed on the qualification run for the parallel today. Pity.
Edited to say “not”. School boy typing and proofing error!
