The resort and the businesses face financial meltdown if they lose the whole season. Our government in the end may prove the sticking point. I think even if the resort is open there will be reduced numbers due to people not prepared to accept the risk. We may need to get use to apres in the open air. My plan at the moment is last Sat in Nov to Xmas.

I know Val is Brit central at times, but everything I have read of late the French are very confident they will have a strong domestic season - I think they may be OK without our ££ this coming season.

Our thinking at the moment is 9th January to 13th February so we are there for the quiet part of the season and gone before the Parisian school holidays start. We are nervous of being in the resort once it starts to fill up. We are about 60/40 in favour of that at the moment, but we won't book the shuttle until nearer the time. We will book a fully flexible ticket and try to drive straight through without an overnight stop. It's about 18 hours from North Yorkshire but we have two drivers. It depends on the weather. All up in the air at the moment.

@dunc999, 50% of skier days in Val D are British, it's about 33 % in Tignes. I don't think the domestic market can take up that slack as very few French skiers go elsewhere; indeed why would they?
As my neighbour, whose family own a 4 star hotel in Tignes, said during the B debate: without the British market I will go bankrupt, no ifs or buts.

@chocksaway, Season before last I picked up 2 French ski tourers who were thumbing a lift from near the lake back up to Val d'Isere. They insisted on buying me a Demi and instructed to me to park my van at the rear of the old Ducs du Savoie hotel (sp?). We then crossed the road to the La Casserole resto/bar for said beer. They seemed very familiar with everyone. Turned out the older guy ran the Parapenting business at the top of Solaise and the younger guy (his nephew) was part of the family that owned the Ducs du S. and their main business, the 4 star hotel on the main road. They quizzed me about the logistics of my doing a season (without working) and then joked "Brits should all stay away so they could enjoy some peace and quiet". But he quickly qualified that with "No English skiers, No resort!" Such is the reliance on their spending.
I actually had a great laugh with the pair of them, (very un-French sense of humour on their part). And if I could have figured out a way of not driving back to Tignes I reckon it could have very easily have turned into a bit of a session.

We moved our whole booking from April 2020 to April 2021 so I have everything crossed quarantine rules are relaxed and businesses in Tignes survive.
Looking at current quarantine measures, we fly to Geneva so quarantine is required for 10 days, does that count if I am just going to France? We then also have to quarantine for 2 weeks coming back which would rule probably half of our group of 20 out. I'm just praying these rules are relaxed in the new year perhaps.
looking forward to seeing more great pics and info over the next 6 months. fingers crossed we can all get out there!

Aren’t the Swiss rules that you don’t need to quarantine on arrival if you’re transitioning straight out of the country? So flying to Geneva but heading straight to France is okay.

Just seen the season pass prices - they may have been there for a while but I just hadn't noticed. 1069.50 Euros until 27 November which is being sold as a 25% discount.
1141 Euros from 27/11 to 18/12 which is 20% discount. Pretty much the same as last year? At least we have until 27 November to get the full discount.

@lynnecha, Yip, the Owners partnership opened today. Trouble is I need 11 weeks occupation to justify any parking or lift pass discount. I think this year may well be pay as I go!

@chocksaway, we did Ski a la Carte one season. It’s quite good value with the free days, but no discount for Seniors so season pass works better for hubby.

Keeping it open for 20/21, but if we ski it will most likely be late on the season and probably be a bit of a last minute trip.

Anyone have any idea what they are doing on the GM cable car? See today’s webcam. Dusting overnight. The GM looking good for early October. Looks to me that perhaps they are trying to put a chair in - assuming the cable car is unuseable for the winter.

@Mark1863, Well they could limit it to folks on the open air viewing platform upstairs like the summer, that should dissipate any nasty bugs fairly sharpish!

Snow cannons pumping out near bottom of Double M this morning. A sign of winter even if it is just a test. Thought they were on yesterday but could not quite make it out

Had not noticed the tennis court netting in Lac, so not sure whether it was up. Certainly not this morning. And they have started putting the tyres down on the courts. It seems a bit previous. The forecast looks warmish for a week. Perhaps they had nothing better to do! Clearly, I haven't as I am the only one posting.

Noticed the tyres yesterday. Val C had them out a good week ago. I was showing the kids yesterday and explaining the rationale. They didn’t believe me that there were tennis courts there as no reference point in winter apart from the flat run out.

New Savoy rule of 6 seems to be now in place. Maximum table size of 6 in restaurants and contact details must be given when dining.
Also no drinking in the streets between 10pm and 6am, but don’t think that will effect many Snowheads.
Val d’Isere tourism are looking at setting up Covid testing in town rather than people having to go down to Bourg St Maurice.
