When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

hypoxic blackout apparently. Never dive alone.

I gave a lift to a young woman the other day who said her dad had suffered something similar. He was climbing in the Alps with a friend and at 3000 meters they found a lake. Her dad dived in but didn't come back to the surface. The friend swam out and dived down and found him on the bottom, he pulled him to shore and the dad started breathing again and recovered and was able to walk back down. They didn't involve mountain rescue. It seems that in this case it was the difference between the air and water temperature that caused the problem (thermic shock?).

Anways he was lucky not to have been on his own.
