NZ, Australia, Chile, Argentina, South Africa and Lesotho could open for their 2020 Southern-Hemisphere ski seasons in May to Nov.
They will be templates for how North America, Europe, Nordics, and northern Asia might reopen in next year's 2020-21 winter season.

Right now, NZ plans to open all its main ski resorts in June.
Phase 1 looks like skiing will be restricted to locals... Phase 2 will be nationals... Phase 3 will be internationals.
Restaurants, small pubs and clubs <100 people may reopen in July.
Age restrictions could also apply.
Old people over 40yo need to be very cautious about crowded lifts or nitelife.

Plenty of the white stuff due here this week as well. One thing though is that there basically isn't any community transmission of the virus in NZ now.

Don’t think the mass gathering limits or lack of tourists will be a big issue for the smaller areas up this way. Craigieburn is all go on just season pass holders already. Rope tows and t bars don’t really have an issue with distancing and most of the punters are locals.
It does sound positive for the border with straya to be reopened in time for some of the season, so potentially good news all round.
Both my kids have already had ski field job offers for the coming season.

It would be a good year for a visit, but I'm not sure they'll allow travel from the UK, or what local quarantine rules they may have (or tests...).
In UK at least the age thing is "advisory". They suggest old/ fat/ Long Term Conditions people stay home, but they can ignore that the same as everyone else. It makes sense, as it's really their risk which the advice is intended to minimise.

China, Norway and Czech Rep partly opened a handful of ski stations in Apr.
The experience so far is:
1. Smaller resorts first.
2. Smaller businesses first.
3. Restaurant trade down by half.

Depends on what "open" means though.
If could simply means Australian only.

Definitely won't be much more than Australia this year. Possibly Pacific Islands and Singapore down the line.
A big chunk of NZ tourism is Australian anyway - I think 2/3 generally but more than that for ski.
First proper snow of winter this morning. maybe 30cm at the local, more on the way next week. If all goes according to plan, lifts open in 4 1/2 weeks time.

Govt here is in discussions with Australia about when and how to open the NZ/OZ boarder but this will not be happening until both countries have effectively eradicated covid and have very high quality contact tracing systems in place. Later this week we will find out what the rules will be for the next level of control when we change from what we are calling level 3.
Fresh snow down to about 800m this morning in the Queenstown area. It looks like 10cm on the ski areas so far with more coming but still six weeks till lifts opening.
