Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snoasis gets Planning approval

The proposed SNOASIS snowdome development in Suffolk received planning permission at lunchtime today. Just down the road from my parents, so we'll no doubt get to visit when/if it opens! Details here

Good news at last - but a major part of the overall scheme (and presumably a money-spinner) was a Casino. Will they also get permission for that? Place your bets, snowHeads snowHead snowHead snowHead snowHead snowHead

Zermatt's casino got permission ... and shut within months. It was a very expensive underground construction, right next to the poshest hotel in the resort, the Zermatterhof.

It's now a branch of a Swiss bank! [presumably with the blackjack tables removed]

It'll be very interesting indeed to see how the Snoasis development progresses from here on. The length and design of indoor snow slopes are clearly still at the experimental stage in terms of profitability. It's a side of the leisure industry that is only about 15 years old, in terms of serious money. I wonder which slopes have reached serious profitability?

It's a pity it was supported by a swimmer, yet there's still no swimming pool. The number of pools is declining as fast as dry ski slopes as they don't make a profit and councils can't afford to support them any more once they need refurbishment.

I think that os great news about Snoasis - my In laws live just down the road, so it will definitely be a regular haunt.

The only problem though is whether they will cock it up as much as the Snowdome in MK? If its managed right and they give it regular servicing then it will be fantastic, but lets hope the people who want the profits don't get too greedy and start cutting corners otherwise we'll just have another ice slope to deal with!
