La Clusaz.
My 10 year old son and I were doing an off piste day at the end of February and our guide told us that the chap who was checking our transceiver (and skiing the same route) was Loic Collomb-Patton.
He described him as “the best skier in the world”.
Well, I suppose he has won the Freeride World Tour twice.
Candide Thovex hails from La Clusaz too.

I've skied most of the legendary places - Fernie, Kicking Horse, Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee, Zermatt, St Anton, Grimentz, Engelberg etc.The place that has impressed me most where everybody seems pretty damned good is Andermatt in Switzerland particularly after a dump of snow on the Gemmstock. Very popular with red hot locals but equally so with the Swedes and Norwegians and a few Britt's in the know. A great place to hire a guide particularly for routes off the back of the Gemmstock. Great Apres beers in the atmospheric Spycher bar in the middle of the village at the end of the day.

For those of you that rate Craigieburn, they have just announced their opening plans for this season (if they can open).
No facilities other than lifties and ski patrol. So no cafe or accommodation.
No day ticket sales.
Only open to season pass holders who are club members. Season passes $400 (about 200 pounds), need to sell 100 to get it open (bet they don't sell many more), plus a joining fee for the club, $175.
So you pretty much get a private ski field. They can't get staff I guess.
I'm tempted. The lifts are a bar steward for a goofy snowboarder though.
Maybe not that easy to get over to NZ however.
