Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Carre + Insurance versus Carre Neige

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
HI all

so with all that is going on at the moment, I have been checking my ski insurance and it seems that when highering my kit for the family, I bought Carre + insurance. I thought I was buying Carre Neige, so that is my mistake for not drilling down properly. Does anyone know anything about Carre + and whether it is as good as Carre Neige?

I don't get any results searching for Carre +, so I guess that's the name of a product offered by a specific insurer.

The big benefits of Carre Neige are that it's understood by the staff on scene. If you're unconscious, they can scan your ski pass and immediately tell that you're covered and they can call a helicopter or whatever's necessary. Even if you're conscious and able to provide them with all the insurance details (make sure you carry them with you), if they don't know how to work with that insurer they could still ask you to pay on card.

In other words, I can't see it's possible for any other insurer to offer a product that's equivalent to Carre Neige. Maybe it would be close enough, but Carre Neige is cheap enough that I don't want to risk testing that theory if I have an accident.

Three weeks ago our son was helicoptered off the mountain ( lost consciousness & broken back) the pisteurs already had a doctor on the scene by the time I arrived (40 mins later). Their priority was for his welfare, and he was evacuated without any checks being made as to what insurance we had (if any), or any payments being made.
The idea that he would not be treated / evacuated was a non starter.
They just said to go into the office in the next few days so sort it out.
As it happens we did not have any special ski insurance.
But because I bought his lift pass with my MasterCard, there is provision under that (Underwritten by AIG) for evacuation, hospitalisation and repatriation expenses.
I have to say that AIG have been fantastic.

I am really annoyed I feel like I've been sold something incorrectly - it was sold by Precision Ski in LA with my boots, I just assumed it was the bog standard Carre neige - she has send me a link to the terms and conditions - but won't let me cancel it

I bought my ski pass, via Pierre Vacance - have no idea how that would work via insurance

He's lying in his back wearing a body brace for 12 weeks.
But otherwise he's good.
If your lift pass is part of a package, then I would definitely get some extra cover.
We used to get the Carre Neige, but since we started using MasterCard to buy the passes, haven't bothered.

Really glad to hear that, I hope the 12 weeks pass as fast as possible - its a great leveller... hearing a story like that.

I don't know whether to pay again now - I have paid for the Carre + sold by the ski hire shop in resort, when booking my kit. so cross I didn't realise it wasn't CN. it seems to offer the same thing as CN, but I feel nervous now.

How could I find out if I would be entitled to AIG you got? I think I did pay with my Halifax Clarity card to PV - I paid just for the ski passes as I had paid my accommodation via Erna Low - I wonder if that wuld still count?

If it covers the expensive stuff, then it's really just a risk vs CBA you need to look at.
Remember that products must be fit for purpose, so it must cover some stuff.
As for medical staff checking insurance first, that is definitely not our experience from 3 weeks ago.
It might be a PdS thing but years ago Mrs WoC broke her leg and was evacuated by blood wagon and private ambulance, and again the pisteurs did not ask about insurance.
FWIW the Carre Neige + looks okay:

Last year I got a free pass with my accommodation with Madame Vacances (same company I guess?) in Val D'Isere and I just took it to the lift pass office and paid in there to add the carre neige. Appreciate that won't be much help in the event you don't get there.

Surprised no one else has suggested that you have purchased damage and theft insurance for your hired kit, having paid for a new pair of skis for the hire shop before I think its a small price to pay!

Sadly that isn't what I was sold! if it was I would be happy as it is the normal Carre Neige.

Mind is just called Carre + and is via a different company in BSM.

yes - totally happy to pay ski insurance. I'm not worried about that at all. I just hope the carre neige bit is recognised if called upon on the slopes as I had thought I was buying the usually recognised one. and wanted to change it, but they wont refund the insurance even though I don't arrive for a month and they cant have paid out yet!

that said, I doubt I will get to the alps anyway, the way its going out there... so it will all become a moot point in the end
