Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Due to unforeseen circumstances I’m back in Chamonix for this season.
Any snowheads doing the same, might be nice to meet up for a ski, drink or a picnic.

There was few posts before to meet up in Chamonix but it’s really hard to find it later.

Maybe a separate communication channel like WhatsApp group?

If/when I'm passing through Cmx (or anywhere) that's where I check to see if there are any snowHeads in town.

Yes, great - that'll make sure nobody can be a part of the clique unless invited in rolling eyes

is it possible to work in Chamonix for 3 months of the season or would all employers only want full season employees?

@Gainz, I would say yes. Check out driving jobs often flexible. Alpy bus etc recruits a lot of staff this time of year.

@Gainz, Employers are less keen on people who won't stay until the end of season so you will be at the end of the list for jobs at present, but one option is to look for jobs after Christmas/New Year - people quit, get injured, get sacked etc and replacements are needed - and if you start mid January 3 months takes you to the end of season. One thing to look out for though is accommodation issues - chalet companies tend to provide accommodation, but most proper driving jobs don't - we are driving for Chamonixfirst for the season, and they are one of the few to provide accommodation.

@jbob, @RobinS, thanks how about more casual work like waitress or bar staff, are they in high demand or do they have constant turnaround like London for instance?

It's not so bad. It's a permanent "proper job" albeit for a TO meaning I can enjoy the place all year round and get paid reasonably. I can't ski as much as some people but I still got 45 days in last year which is way more than I'd ever get in the UK. Being able to take leave during the winter is a big plus that a lot of seasonal workers don't get.

As mentioned above JanetS and I are in Cham for the season, we are staying at the town end of Route des Nantes. My question to other seasonaires is, where is a good place to go for a drink, preferably at affordable prices? We have been to Chamonix before, but mainly in summer, and my days of hanging out at the Bar National in the early 1980's are not really relevant anymore! Thinking of after skiing/early evening rather than late night stuff, the sort of place where we can get to know people?

@RobinS, I think you are probs best off at MBC (very good Thursday ribs) or (which I don't like) Bard'up.

You are also close to Hibou for rather good takeaway.

@RobinS, we’re in the same part of town. Which is a little thin on bars. For cheap early drinks you’ll need to check out the happy hours which can change a little each year. Monkey bar and the other cham sud bars are usually reasonable and fun. For a bit more entertainment then chambre neuf up by the station is lively with elevation across the road. The Jekyll has been a picnic venue and is nice for a quiet drink sometimes music and comedy. MBC as above is also a favourite of mine with good basic grub as well.

Hi!!
I’ll be in chamonix from early January for 4 months. I’m not working, only skiing Very Happy so I’m very keen to meet ski buddies.
I’ll be living in the La Frasse part of town.
I’m a pretty experienced off piste skier, doing an avi course in jan and then keen to start exploring the mountains.
Looking forward to meeting you all!

I'm going to be in Chamonix from 4th January to 1st February. I'm being joined by a friend for the month. I'm an experienced piste skier, some off piste experience and hope to do some touring this time around. I'll be mixing working and skiing, should be pretty flexible. It would be great to meet some other snowheads. Are any of you experienced tourers?

I suggest we meet on Wednesday the 8/1. At 7 pm in the MBC. Its a little early but should be reasonably quiet. I’ll try and book the table near the stairs down to the loo for an hour or so.

Avalanche Academy run good free safety talks at the Big Horn in Cham sud. They are free but you have to book.

Hello all - having had the unexpected pleasure of bumping into @under a new name in Southbar for rugby watching a couple of weeks ago, we had a bit of a chat about more drinks...

Anyone interested in an evening at the Apres Ski in Chambre Neuf some evening? I'd suggest mid-week when it's a bit calmer - Fridays can be crazy (and some Sundays depending on how hard the weekenders want to party...)

I'll be back in South Bar this weekend too for the rugby if anyone is around - come on Ireland Toofy Grin Toofy Grin

I hope everyone is well!
