My son turns 16 at the end of this year and wants to go on a skiing holiday with his friends by themselves before GCSEs start I was wondering what hotels will take them and what resorts would be good.

@LloydYS, I’m assuming you mean an accompanied trip? There’s some places in Switzerland - search for Sportferein Ski Camp.

Camp Suisse in Champerey in the PDS is good. Caters for 16 year olds. Operates in feb half term not sure when else.

This has echoes of my son's first trip to Ibiza with his friends. I has serious reservations. I mean, he is a bright guy (more intelligent than me) but 16 is 16. But he was funding it from his Saturday job, so we said OK. He could have gone ahead and booked it anyway.
But what got me was when the other boys parents came to me and said "Ah we had real concerns, but once we knew that Ian was going, we were really reassured. He's really sensible."
When I realised that my son was the most sensible of the six of them - then I really got worried.

In 1984 aged 15 I cycled round France and Germany alone. Stayed in Youth Hostels. One ferry company refused to sell me a ticket as I was an unaccompanied minor. Another was OK.
If someone does accept them - with all the reputation that a group of unsupervised 16 year old boys will suggest - they might want the booking to be made beforehand on a credit card which also has the clause that the card will automatically be charged for any damage found (which seems to be the norm these days?). Similarly, for renting ski gear.

Surely a school trip is the answer. They get to go skiing without the rents, everything is organised for them, and there are adults on hand just in case.

If the school offers it. The recent School Trip thread suggested they weren't being offered near GCSE years.

My son went when he was 17, with 3 friends who were 16. He had been going to the resort several times a season since he was 12, and knew people in resort if he had a problem. He flew into Barcelona airport, which he had also flown too many times, and knew where to catch the bus from, I rented an apartment which we had used many times before.
He was considered the sensible one, the biggest problems he had, was 2 of the others thinking they should be waited on, and shouldn’t have to keep the apartment clean.
I think I would have been more concerned if he hadn’t known the resort.
