Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

God doesn't want me to ski

Having booked a trip for the 5th of January with my super keen 10yo novice son, I proceeded to break my arm on the 15th of December - the arm is healed and I am doing physio, with the aim of going to the Alps on 29th March.

Bring on no snow and the emergence of the dreaded deadly Corona lurgy.

NOW for the last couple of weeks I have noticed an increasingly painful left knee - but ONLY when coming DOWN stairs. If you were to look at my knee, the pain is on the edge of the cap, at about 5 o'clock.

Anybody know what it is and how to get rid of it?

My son looks very worried.

When my knees produce random pain, apparently out of nowhere - it is always helped with freeing out the Calf/Shin/Quad and Hamstring muscles, as well as the IT Band.

A Trigger Point Foam Roller (see their YouTube Videos for correct use) is your friend, along with effective stretching.

This is what works for me - so maybe a visit to a Physio or Osteopath is a good idea, to see if it is right for you.

@marodo2712, try a patella stabiliser knee support.

When I had similar this helped (as did being taped up the the physio but found the knee support easier to apply Happy)

i know what you mean by God doesnt want you to ski, a few years ago i had a ski holiday in valdisere booked in march for two of us, in jan my mate decided he didnt want to go because his daughter was ill...fair enough, then in the beginning of february i had a stomach cancer scare, i saw the doctor and he said its nothing to worry about go and enjoy your holiday, a week before i went i started bleeding in a private place, so i went back to the doctor, he assured me nothing was seriously wrong, so off i go to valdisere on my own, on the second day i had my hire skis pinched, luckily they were insured so the shop just replaced them, and on the last friday i broke my arm on a harmless looking blue run, so i really felt that God was telling me i shouldnt have gone.

Alcohol and Tramadol work wonders. Also see the rules Rule 5
I have had "iffy" knees since a teenager and I now have a range of knee supports from the simple elasticated bandage type through to metal hinged type, most times I don't need them but on the days I do I am thankful that I have them, I am sure that a lot of their effectiveness is psychological but it works.

@marodo2712, a physiotherapy assessment, ideally with one who specialises in sports injuries, might be worth the investment. I had a similar sounding problem in knee one, which physio treatment and prescribed exercises eventually eased. However a similar injury in knee two required surgery. An accurate diagnosis by a professional is a good place to start. Good luck.

@PeakyB,

I've arranged a sports physio for Monday, I'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination, but worth it I think.

@NickyJ, I've got a patella support, rather than having it underneath the patella I've got it covering the bottom half, and there is ZERO pain when coming down stairs.

I'm a lapsed Catholic, so I think the snow will have gone by the time I'd finished all the Hail Mary's I'd have to do before the big guy picked up the phone.

@marodo2712, this your answer for skiing.

Though 100% also see physio not least to get exercises to address underlying issue. With mine it was a particular muscle was firing a little late meaning the patella wasn’t moving up smoothly.
