Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The Silver Bullet is the main après place in Bad Gastein. Lots of very good covers bands and DJ’s organised by Swedish people.

Don’t discount the Graukogel area. It’s not huge but the skiing is probably the best tree lined piste skiing I’ve known. The other side is a bit exposed on top but is generally very good if it isn’t windy.

The options for eating on the mountain are the worst I’ve ever experienced. Definitely not the usual Austrian standards and anywhere that is tends to be crowded with long queues. You can survive until you get off the mountain.

It’s the perfect place to get to by train with the station being right next to the main gondola in BG.

I stayed in a great hostel, first time in probably 30 years and wasn’t keen on the idea but I’d do it again.
