Poster: A snowHead

My friend and I are think of doing this next year, has anyone else done it, any advice? Thinking of staying in Wengen or Murren if it’s not too expensive. I imagine prices are inflated that weekend.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Did you watch Ski Sunday on 02/02? It looked great fun. Don’t rule out Lauterbrunen in the valley rather than Wengen

I think I’ve done 14?
Most of the good accommodation is booked on departure from the previous year. Many people are regular. It’s a great laugh but I was becoming increasingly slow (and never was very fast to begin with) and it now conflicts with another commitment. Which is a great excuse .
Lauterbrunnen can work, and is a lot cheaper. Wengen likely to be too much of a logistics hassle, although regularly Wengen DHO members compete.
Entries can also be tricky these days. It’s a slightly complicated system.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

2/2: most hotels in Mürren work on full week bookings. A few don't, but that's cos they aren't quite as nice. Lauterbrunnen much more flexible.
Entrywise, unless you personally know a Kandahar club member, get it in as early as possible. I first did it as an independent when competition for places wasn't quite so fierce.
As an alternative, cheaper, easier to get into, energetically less demanding (no uphill), you could look at the Belalp-Hexe. Also much fun. Accom in Birg.

@Chris Brookes, Alpenblick a good suggestion, Edelweiss (I think) often has places.
Unless it's been a poor year, Emma at the Guesthouse will already be fully booked, probably with a waitlist.

I did this race maybe 3 years back now. What an adrenaline buzz - absolutely loved it!

@Chris Brookes, how very unusual!
In which case an excellent suggestion. Just watch out for men in kilts.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.
