Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

osprey Kamber 32 backpack (and new Mammut Nirvana 35): question

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi everyone.
I am torn between these backpacks: Osprey Kamber 32 / Jones DSCNT 32 / New Mammut Nirvana 35.
It has to have the snowboard carry system.

As far as the Osprey Kamber from a video on the web it seems the straps for carrying snowboard are linked to the side straps. So in order to tighten your board you must pull the side strap. It is like the side buckle/straps are connected to the snowboard straps/buckle. If i have to carry snowshoes (instead of snowboard) and skipoles (on the side) can i tighten them separately? can I undo the side strap without unbuckling the snowboard strap?

As far as the new Mammut Nirvana 35: they changed the helmet carry system, which was very useful and well made, but now you can't have the helmet attached anymore if you carry a snowboard. https://www.mammut.com/eu/en/p/2560-00030-00366/nirvana-35/

thanks a lot in advance

On the Osprey Kamber 32 the carrying straps have 3 buckles, 2 on the sides and one in the center. The 2 side straps on top have cam-locking straps which you can undo to loosen or tighten without unbuckling.

A good snowboard review of the pack here if you haven't seen:

 Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks. I had seen that video.
Yesterday I saw a friend's Kamber, and it is like I thought. If you undo the side buckle, the straps which keeps the board become loose. I think this is weird to say the least, they shouldn't be completely independent.

@lorcar

I understand your point but don’t see it as an issue. There’s are rubber reinforcing straps on each side that’s connected to the main body and centre buckle. The snowboard is still strapped in when you undo the side buckles. Yes it get loose but If I’m undoing the side buckle to strap something in or out then the backpack is most likely on the ground.

 Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks.
What if a friend is fixing your skipoles with your backpack still on?
Also, the back access is useful, but not having the access from the front is not a great idea either.
