Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Munich Airport ATMS

Munich Airport! Does anyone know how many ATMs they have, if they're easy to find etc? I need to take out quite a bit of cash for the taxi driver and some for the cleaning fees for where we're staying, all in all about £800. Are there restrictions on maximum withdrawals? Clueless worrying Brit here...

Have you checked whether you have a daily withdrawal limit on your card ? This may be more of a restriction than any limit of a single ATM.

This should be a link to the airport plan:

Looks like there are loads of ATMs, and I remember using one in the S-Bahn station too.

As to maximum withdrawals, that's probably more to do with your own bank account than the ATM.

It's £300 maximum daily withdrawal in the UK.

@Pastorius, If I need that kind of quantity of cash I buy online via FairFX and it gets delivered by special delivery next day. You will save a fair bit doing it that way.

I'll be honest I didn't think too far ahead because I have a halifax clarity credit card and withdrawals are free at the mastercard exchange rate. But then a few requests to pay for things in cash popped up!
The taxi driver may have to just lump it and take payment on card.

@Pastorius, card payments are far less common in Austria. Taxi drivers, many mountain huts, some smaller shops and restaurants are less likely to accept cards. Your best best is to probably pre-book the required amount through one of the airport exchange bureaus and collect on arrival.

No it is not and I have no idea why you would make this statement when you clearly have no basis. The limit is set by your bank and is different for different customers. Mine is considerably higher than that for example. Best to restrict yourself to things you actually know when offering helpful advice. Otherwise the advice is not helpful at all.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

He has not said he wants to pay with a credit card.
he has said he wants to withdraw cash using his Clarity Credit Card.

@Mr.Egg, and then he suggested paying a taxi driver by card, which is unlikely to be possible. Hence my post.

oooh...pricey way of doing it though?

I would get cash in the UK (in London) at somewhere like Thomas Exchange Global - very close to Mastercard rate with no commission.

Thanks for the heads up! The taxi driver has stated that he can take payments in cash - is it likely to be a problem on a credit card? I mean it's only mastercard, not AmEx or anything like that

@Pastorius, you would have to ask him. You can pre book taxis for our resort and pay the company by credit card. If you book within a couple of days and can't pay by card in advance for whatever reason then you can pay the driver in cash (not card)

While Halifax don't charge a fee to withdraw cash, they do charge interest from the day you withdraw it. Some ATMs charge a fee and some don't. In Mayhofen the one near the Apotheke charges but the one further up towards the Penkenbahn doesn't. Caveat emptor. While establishments are free to accept cards or not, I do find it a pain in this day and age when they don't.
