Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Recovery from fractured vertebrae

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I have fractured two verterbrae T12 L1 in my back, in a brace for 6 weeks, then see the doc to either give a green light for starting rehab or a further 6 weeks, whilst I can still feel it there is now minimal pain.

Out in France and hoping to get back on skis before the end of the season. Any advice on recovery, when to start exercises, type of exercises etc.

@Christopher,
Take the doctors advice!!

Without all the facts no one on here can advise you.

I fractured T7 and T8 which are a bit higher. T12 and L1 wont be supported by the Rib cage so might not be as stable, hence your experience might vary. There isn't much you can do from a rehab point of view. I did a lot of physio and core work but I'm not sure it made much difference. Once the doctors are happy the vertebrae are stable, I expect you can ski whenever you feel up to it. Maybe skip the park this season though as big impacts wouldn't be advisable.

@Christopher, ouch. My advice is to take the doc's advice. They are experts at (presumably) Grenoble CHU. No jumps, gentle skiing if you do get back, and a spine protector. Hubby had physio after his neck fracture, which was repaired in Grenoble, but it was more to deal with the whiplash further down the spine than the fractured verterbrae. Guy in next bed didn't have surgery, and was put in a neck brace, but was out of action for a lot longer.
