Hi All, I'm just returned form a very enjoyable ladies skiing weekend in Grand Massif. Les Carroz and Flaine, Im comfortable on nice blues and an occasional easy red!
I am due to travel to St Gervais in Feb half term with husband and 3 kids. Does anyone have any advice regarding some nice wide blue and easy red runs we could get to during the 2 and a half hours the kids are in ski school at St Gervais/Bettex each morning?
Any names of pistes and lifts we could use to navigate while we get our bearings would be appreciated if anyone has local knowledge.

Right, here goes with an idea for the first day.
Sticking to blues and greens: after leaving children at Bettex (top of the first gondola) take the second gondola (Bettex-Arbois). Once there bear right and ski down the Megeve (opposite) side of the ridge, via Source (blue), Lanches and the bottom of Mandarines (both greens). The signposts are to the lifts they access, respectively Freddy, Ideal and Mont-d'Arbois. The go up the Mont-d'Arbois bubble which takes you back to the ridge a little further north. Turn sharp right out of the gondola station and ski down Finance (blue), bearing right where a red splits off until you come to the next junction where you go left down Prapacot (blue) to the mid-station of the Princesse gondola. Up that to return where you just started, and set off down Finance again but this time staying right where Prapacot branches off and follow the signs for the Monts-Rosset chair (you will eventually need to fork left down Chenaz, blue). Up that and ski down the lower part of Finance again but this time forking left back to Bettex where you dropped off the kids.
That won't take two and a half hours, so you could simply repeat it taking the red options (Milloz and Marmire respectively) to the Princesse and Monts-Rosset lifts. You could also shorten it slightly by eliminating the second green run on the Megeve side by taking the Ideal chair you pass along the way. And finally have a coffee in the bar next to the Bettex gondola station while you wait for ski school to return.
The run down to Megeve is an easy cruise, good to warm up first thing, and then the blues and reds around Princesse and Monts Rosset are very satisfying pistes that will make you feel you really have your ski legs back.
On subsequent days you can pretty much explore anywhere off the ridge between St Gervais and Megeve. There are just a few unenjoyable reds to avoid: the one off Mont-Joly, Blanchot off the Epaule lift, and Joux off Mont-Jolie (this one is just the connection across to the fairly steep reds off Etudiants, and it is boring and flat - unless you happen to enjoy poling).

Just re-read my post and realised a mistake. After the Mont-d'Arbois bubble it is sharp LEFT out of the gondola station not right.

I am just back from StG for quick weekend & it was great. @j b, has it right, but I wouldn't get second bubble up but ski down to the 6 man mount rosset chair then down the prapacot (if good snow you can go right to the bottom not just the mid station), nice comfortable enclosed bubble with seats up to top then you chose red or blue down to Princess or red or blue back down to Mount rossett, more than enough to fill the time & if you go down blue finance you might even see the kids in the school.

@j b, no only to the mid station but the home run down to StG opened on Monday (we skied it Sunday evening as we missed the gondola closing as we were having so much fun)

@Jonny996, wow that's doing well. Just checked the webcam and it's snowing in the town at the moment.
(Sorry @nburton to temporarily hijack your thread, but good to hear the latest update from Jonny. Of course he is right as a regular to StG, if you want to get straight into action without any greens you can avoid going over the Megeve side and concentrate on skiing - and repeating ad lib - the blues and reds through the trees).
