Poster: A snowHead

I would be grateful for some good examples of layer underneath the shell pants - something for hotter weather, like +5 degrees celcius, and sth for -10 degrees.
Thanks

Capri length (finish just under your knees) lightweight fleece or Merino wool base layer. Decathlon have 3 different grades of the same (in hiking section). Or just longer length, stretch/sports undercrackers. (Modal fibre is great but not well lasting)

So, basically merino wool base layer, lightweight and heavy for warmer and more cold conditions?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

three broad options
1. merino (or similar) base layer - enough for most conditions
2. fleece tights/trousers - instead or on top of base layer if its really cold
3. alternative to 2 - primaloft (or similar) insulated 3/4 length trousers
when it is really warm just merino boxers

@bober02, doesn't have to be Merino (but preferably not into yer boots to avoid friction rubbing blisters etc.), good fleece is fine if your body fungi/flora is not excessive.
It does depend on the quality, material, breathability, windproofing etc. of your shell pants . . . they can vary between 'plastic bin bag' and 'Arctic Gale comfort'

I can recommend Bawbags 3/4 long johns for warmer weather. A little more colourful than most, should you open shell vents. Also take up very little space.

There are a few other threads on this, all with differing views. Unless it's really cold (like -15 and below) then I'll usually just have boxers, as long as my top half is warm then it's rare that I'll feel uncomfortable.
That's with Arcteryx Sabre troosers, which seem pretty good at stopping wind from getting in...or getting out

If warm a pair of running underpants (Kalenji from Decathlon). If cold Helly Hansen Warm Lifa/Merino longjohns - the best base layer I have ever found.

I have the same trousers, underneath I wear ice breaker 3/4 merino in all temps and just open the vents on the sabres if I get warm... Ultimately it depends on the quality/features of the shell.
