Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

2015 Marker Griffon - GripWalk Compatible?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi I am thinking of replacing my trusty old boots and it seems there is a chance that I will end up with boots with gripwalk soles (or the option to have gripwalk soles).

I know that the newer Marker Griffons (marked sole ID) are Gripwalk compatible but my skis are mounted with 2014/15 Marker Griffons. They have the height adjustable AFD still so I think they probably are but I can't find anything to help me confirm this. Can anyone confirm if they are compatible with Gripwalk soles before I end up with a pair only to find they don't fit?

Thanks

Your Griffons are NOT GripWalk compatible. Whilst they have a height adjustable AFD they have insufficient adjustment to for a GW boot. Plus their flat AFD not compatible with the profile of the GW sole. If you end up with GW soles then you need the latest Sole ID toe bindings.

The mounting pattern is however unchanged so it's a simple job to swap the toes - although you'd have to buy a complete new set of bindings as Marker don't sell the toes separately.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks spyderjon, glad I asked! I'll make sure they come with alpine sole plates in that case.

Not my plan for now, but if I did swap the bindings I can just screw them into the existing holes then? I was always assumed the screws were self tapping and would therefore not be "secure" if put back into the same hole

99.9% of the time it's fine providing that:

- the existing screws are not 'spinners'
- you put some exterior PVA adhesive in the holes first
- you don't over torque the screws (tighten until the screw stops then just a little 'nip-up' - or 4.5Nm if you want to be geeky)

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

What are spinners? Puzzled

A spinner is a mounting screw that has been over torqued to the extent that the self-tapped thread within the ski has been stripped meaning that the screw is no longer tight in the ski and just rotates.

@ozbozz123, I’ve a pair of lightly-used Sole ID griffons that I’m looking to sell at a good price. They’re in great condition (just didn’t work with my boots, hence the sale). Let me know if you’re interested and I can whizz some pictures over.

@Inboard, why don't they work with your boot? They will adjust for all sole types but I have found that on a couple of brand new AT boots with new deep soles (Scarpa) that the AFD couldn't quite go low enough so I had to grind a whisker of the soles in the contact area for them to work. On boots that had been worn for a while there was no problem.

In which case that's exactly what he doesn't want!

Thanks @Inboard, for now my plan is to try and avoid the need for these but I'll definitely get in contact if I'm needing to swap them
