Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

All mountain skis - kore 93 vs mantra m5

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Looking to get a new pair of all mountain skis. Mainly considering:

Head Kore 93
Volkl Mantra M5

Also considered:
Black Crows Daemon
Salmon QST 97
Elan Ripstick 96

(and obviously happy to consider any other suggestions)

Some of the reviews I read say that Kore 93 is not as stable at high speed. How fast is "high speed"? Is over 100 km/h fast? One other concern is that reviews seem the top sheet is more prone to wear and tear as it's relatively fragile? I have slight preference to Kore 93 as it seems to be more versatile.

Some background
183cm, 77kg
Reasonably competent skiers - I could go down all pistes. Go off piste 30% - 40% of the time
Current skiing on Blizzard Brahma on telemark binding. Also have head isupershape magnum on alpine binding.
Will probably put telemark binding on these new pair of skis (though I tend to ski parallelly in the afternoon when I'm tired/lazy)
Moderately aggressive skiing style - probably slightly more aggressive than an average skier but wouldn't call myself aggressive

The Brahma is a top performer in that width sector so if you want wider then try the Bonafide.

 Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@spyderjon, thanks - I do really like Brahma too. Was hoping to have bindings remounted but was told couldn't be done without damaging the integrity of the skis! So looking to use this opportunity to try some different skis

@euanovsky, I love my M5's (and have also loved previous generations of the Mantras) both on and off piste in Europe BUT I find that they tend to reward being skied fairly aggressively - so I'm not sure how well they would suit telemark skiing!

 Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The two & a half metal layers of the Brahma combined with a quality core make it one of the strongest skis on the market so unless you've got some serious hole conflicts I'd call bull$hit on that, even with a tele binding.

@spyderjon,

My current binding in Moonlight TTS - apparently those hole positions are "atypical"...

There's no such thing as a typical or atypical mounting pattern. Virtually every make/model of binding has a different mounting pattern so it's all about their relevant positions to each other for the sole length(s) being mounted for. Have you or a shop checked for mounting conflicts?

The Brahma is a great all mountain ski with a hard snow bias and I wouldn't want to loose that performance. Have you considered installing Quiver Killer inserts so you can then share your bindings across a wider ski, and then go for a Quiver Killered 100-110mm non metal ski to give you a great two ski quiver with a far wider performance range than one mid 90 ski?

They are all fine skis with some significant differences :

The Mantra M5 is a stiff and demanding ski. I love this kind of agressive skis, like the M5 but prefer the older versions.

On the opposite the Ripstick is a soft ski, a marvel on soft snows, less able on hardpack. Also, the Rossignol Experience 94 Ti : very easy and fun.

In between is the Kore 93, with a very good stiffness/weight ratio (I am thinking about buying one pair with touring bindings).

@spyderjon,

I took them to Ski Bartlett and that's what I was told. Yea will consider QK but sort of need a new pair of skis for that!
