Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi All,
A bit of background: I'm a 50 something year old, very experienced skier who likes to ski mostly lift served off piste. I've an athletic, aggressive ski style. I have done a lot of hiking for powder, and a bit of skinning & day touring over the years, which I see myself probably doing more of going forward.
My current skis are armada Jj Akas (195 cm, 132 mm wide) which are great for powder charging but which I probably need to change for my future ski requirements.
Im looking for a great all mountain set up, with a good, long, wide all mountain ski, with touring bindings to allow me to skin & tour easily.
I hired Black Crows Navis, I think 183cm 2 years ago, and I was thinking these or similar, with kingpin or maybe fritschi touring bindings.
What do people think? All recommendations & pointers appreciated...
Happy Christmas to one & all!!

I've got a normal Black Crows Navis in 179cm (175cm tall and 80kg) with Salomon Shifts which is nigh on perfect for me for 90% of off piste and day tours up to about 700m ascent.
If I was a millionaire I'd have a lighter touring setup and a fatter pow ski but until that day comes then I've been very happy with my setup.
The Freebird Navis with a lightweight binding is by far the most common touring setup here in Cham (completely anecdotal through just seeing loads of them).

@horgand, Salomon qst 106 or 99 wide mounted with shift would be a good option

Check-out the Whitedot Altum range. Choice of 94mm, 104mm or 114mm underfoot. Light enough for short tours but heavy enough for stability/crud busting etc. Or, if you want wider, then there's 118mm Ragnarok in either trad or Carbonlite builds or the 122mm Ragnarok ASYM. Mount them with Shifts, Kingpins or Tectons although Shifts would be my recommedation based upon your requirements.
The Scott Scrapper 95's, 105's & 115's are also excellent skis.
And the new Salomon QST106 is getting excellent reviews.

Another option for you. Countdown 104 with Shift binding and skins. Very competent ski. Currently on Ebay with pictures. Stick the item number in the search box and it should find them 153761625509
