Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Backcountry freeride skis HELP!

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi everyone
after several years of mostly racing and only a bit of powder skiing I've decided to shift my skiing away from icey slopes.
I'm looking to buy a "a bit" light ski that's mostly for downhill. I have skis for the slopes already so i really am looking for a freeride ski. I'm thinking of mounting touring bindings on (Fritschi Vipec EVO 12 or maybe a more alpine style of bindings)
I really have not much of an idea when buying the bindings and skis Puzzled , so I'm hoping that someone here knows freeride touring a bit and could help me out Very Happy
i would like a ski that isnt too heavy to make me want to quit while going uphill but that will bring me pleasure going downhill in powder snow (if snow isnt that good I wont use the skis and just go back to icey slopes Cool )

I did a course last year with Blair Aitken of British backcountry, Atomic Backland skis is what we used.
Atomic Shift bindings seem popular but you'll need compatible boots

@yannick_cos, Whitedot are great: I have a pair of their Rangers. They make them up to 108mm underfoot which is more than enough for powder touring.

the shift binding was designed for "free ride touring " and fits the bill perfectly with the caveat that you need boots with tech inserts to use them , and you are really spoilt for choice these days when it comes to skis , go for something that suits your skiing abilities and style , don't get obsessed with the weight game .

@yannick_cos, maybe some specifics on where you'll be skiing and your preferences would help with ski suggestions

@yannick_cos, how about my brand new Whitedot R98’s Carbonlite 186cm drilled and quiver-killer inserts fitted for Dynafit touring bindings. Brand new never been skied, hotboxed and QK’d by Spyderjon too. I’ll never ski them. PM if interested and I’ll email you photos. Mark

Or my Dynastar Mythic 97s in a 177? Minimallys used (a few days touring) and willing to sell ata reasonable price as they've been hanging around too long.

I wanted a touring set up that holds up particularly well downhill. It is all very personal, but I have gone with Volkl 90Eight skis that are light but still a good all mountain ski. Fritschi Vipec Evo 12 bindings and Tecnica Cochise 120 boots, which again is a good combination randonee/downhill boot.
