Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi Snowheads!

Im off to catch some last minute snow in Morzine on April 16th.

Ive booked some lessons as Ive only ever done 3 days before in my whole life but im not familiar with the Avoriaz part of the area. Although Im meeting friends whilst im out there, im doing the lessons on my own, so need to navigate my way around the place solo and seeing as everything always looks the same to me when it's covered in snow, this is not going to be an easy task!

I've been told by my instructor that I will need to get to Avoriaz for the lessons cos its higher and we'll be guaranteed better snow but I have NO clue however of where I would need to go to get to Avoriaz from Morzine Village. (Forgot to ask, d'oh!).

I know that I get the Super Morzine Gondola to Avoriaz, but is there a suitable meeting point at top of the gondola where I could meet my instructor or do I need to get another lift after this in order to meet/find some easy greens and blues?

Hope you can help!!

There are a fair few lifts needed to get over to Avoriaz from Morzine, one option would be to get the bus to Les Prodians, then just get one lift up to Avoriaz.

OR book a ski school based in Morzine, a load less hassle IMHO!

Greg

snowangel, Hi to you too!

I think you're probably right to want to get to Avoriaz - Morzine's local slopes may be a little limited by then - although I understand the snow base is excellent for the time of year.

Your easiest would be as gregh suggests - take the bus from Morzine to Prodains then up the Avoriaz cable car and meet your instructor at the top. (Who is teaching you BTW? - just curious).

Super Morzine to Avoriaz is pretty straightforward I think - but that opinion has to be modified to fit how well you navigate. If your on snow direction finding isn't so hot, it can be a little confusing - and not likely to put you in the most receptive frame of mind for a lesson!

Thanks for the info guys, bus it is then, (do you know if it's a free shuttle), unless I can get my instructor to meet me at the top of the Super Morzine lift and navigate with me from there!

I've booked a lesson with the E'cole de Ski International which is based in the centre of Morzine. I had a couple of lessons with them when i was there back in early Jan. One with a French girl who spoke very little English so not very helpful and another with a guy called Graham (who WAS English, but I'd had to request this) and he was really excellent.......especially with nervous first timers like me!

Cheer again for the advice!

snowangel, It's a free shuttle. My recollection is that it definitely departs from opposite the tourist office - pretty easy to find - and I think collects from the town square then several stops along the road to Prodains.

Have fun!

snowangel, the bus does pick up at the TO but make sure you're at the navette stop, not the one for buses to Geneve/Thonon/Cluses. The navette drivers seem to quite enjoy cruising past people at the wrong stop Twisted Evil

The navette for Les Prodains is "Ligne A", btw. It does a loop round Morzine so your local navette stop may be easier than the TO.

Thanks for that Brian. Really useful info. I would have been driving around all day, none the wiser otherwise!

Im confused though.......is the navette stop outside the Tourist Office or in a different place?!

snowangel, yes, there is a navette stop outside the TO. There are 2 little chalet style bus shelters on opposite sides of the road, one for navettes and one for buses further afield. Make sure you don't stand at the one marked for buses to Geneve/Thonon/Cluses.
