Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Scandinavia - free ski stuff for kids

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Had an email through from Ski Star that: “Valle's Winter Weeks take place weeks 3-5 (13 Jan-2 Feb) and 13-14 (23 Mar - 5 Apr), the best weeks of the winter season for all ski-loving families with children.
During Valle's Winter Weeks we offer free ski school, ski rental and SkiPasses for children up to 6 years old at our Scandinavian ski resorts”.

May be of use to families booking their next holiday

Scandinavia is very child friendly.

There should be flights to the new Sälen/Trysil Scandinavian Mountains Airport starting in December 2019. Including with SAS from Heathrow. I had a quick look out of interest but it doesn’t seem you can book them yet.

You can book SAS from LHR to salen airport from 28 Dec. The only problem is that flights are all on Saturdays, while skistar accommodation in Salen is all sunday to Sunday. I discussed this with skistar and got a Nordic shrug... you can get accommodation sat to sat in Trysil but it's a lot more expensive than Sunday to Sunday for some reason.

@Damion75, we were able to find some Saturday to Saturday accommodation in Salen when we went Feb half term 18 months ago (obviously could be none now but would be surprised?)

Very strange that the flights are on Saturday as the changeover day is Sunday in the Nordics. Hopefully SAS sort that out in the future.

Usually you can find Sat-Sat accommodation on the skistar website and it can be cheaper even on peak weeks.

Still, a return flight for £170 ish would make a pretty good value DIY holiday for families.

Yup, we are doing Saturday-Saturday in an apartment booked through skistar this year, then a couple of nights in a hotel, so trip is 9 days, 8 days skiing. ace.
We are flying from Manc via Arlanda though.

You can change over almost any day with skistar, just not at every resort, and you can fly into salen airport most days, just not direct from uk...

Also, for reference if your going this way, (in salen at the moment having driven from oslo via trysil) if you're using that airport and self driving for any reason, consider hiring an SUV. The road is only partly finished between the airport and trysil (not great the other side actually) and driving conditions are ... sub-optimal!
