Hi All,
We are planning a trip to Val Thorens, somewhere we've not been to before. We are utterly confused by the layout of the town.
We are thinking about staying in apartments the open to the "Plein Sud" run. I cannot see this marked on any map. The location of the accommodation is right near Pierre et Vacances Temples du Soleil.
Questions please...
- It looks like ski in/ski out - is it from there?
- APRES!!! Importantly...what is the walk like from there to all the bars on Rue de Gebroulaz? Is it far? Is it all uphill and a killer?

Plein Sud run runs down skier's right of town. Uphill to the main bars but you get to roll home downhill.

@rossyl, yes it is ski in/ski out as there are lots of snow paths in and out of the apartments (although you may have to cross a road at some point).
It’s probably a ten minute walk to the bars you mention (you can use the public lifts in the nearby apartments which mean you avoid the bulk of the uphill part).
Personally I prefer to stay around Eskival in the centre of town as it’s an easy walk to all parts of the town plus you have more flexibility on your last route home in terms of runs/lifts.
Certain areas of VT make that a bit harder than others (don’t worry, there’s always a route home but certain areas are less flexible than others).

So it sounds like it is perfectly do-able 10min walk from L'Oxalys to the bars.
If anyone has any self catering recommendations that might be better located, please let me know.

Yes @rossyl, it’s very doable. Although saying that - after staying near temples de Soleil, we did move nearer to the centre of town the following year to avoid the walk to the bars (and to make it easier to ski direct to ski school for those in the group that needed it).
The location that’s right for you will come down to your specific requirements.
There should be loads of apartments on Airbnb and HomeAway.

We’ve stayed in Roc de Peclet for the last four years, 2 is better than 1 as it has a boot room facing onto the piste. Olympic next door also ski in and out. Lots of options on Homeaway etc. Also don’t need to ski plein piste back which is busy and chopped up at the end of the day.

L'Oxalys is less than 10min walk to the bars or grocery store and right on the piste. Ski in ski out as real as it gets.
