Looking for somewhere snow sure with lots of intermediate skiing.
1 family needs lots of KMs as have 7 days skiing, the other family needs near to Geneva as only going Mon-Friday.
Flaine not got much flexible accomodation, so currently looking at Samoeons/Morillion with a view to skiing in Flaine if snow isnt great - how easy is it to get there and back if conditions are poor.
any alternative resort suggestions? never really like the look of Chamonix which would seem to be the other alternative. Prefer wide motorway pistes or tree lined. Have like La Plagne, Les Arcs, Tignes etc, but too far from Geneva. We’ve skied Grand Bornand and La Toussiere - liked those, but bit small and but worried about conditions in early season.

We like Flaine alot (family skiing together) and if the snow is there it's an ideal place for your described needs.
We've stayed at all of the villages around the GM area and like Morillon 1100 most of all for it's combination of size and direct access to all the other areas, big advantage of walking out onto the snow to make a very relaxed start to the day. No buses, no waiting no fuss, just get on the lift. This one and Flaine itself are like this.
However, accepting the reality of snow covered connections early in the season, if you want Flaine principally (agree with that for your date) then I feel it's better to focus on that as your location. Try any channels possible to get accommodation to get you there, although I suspect early booking for new year is going to confine your flexibility at whichever place you prefer because of peak-ee demand etc.

Thanks, its been about 10 yrs since we skied at Grand Massif. Can’t remember what the links are like. We were in Samoens and left our skis at 1600 - all we can remember is a very steep edged connection at the top and a busy and therefore dangerous blue on the way back. Husband thinks it might be three chairlifts from Morillion to top? is that right?
I think Flaine itself will be a non starter as most of the accomodation seems to be Sat-Sat and purpose built so very small.

The Portes de Soleil region round morzine and avoriaz or even Les gets might be a good option. Is easy from Geneva and plenty of intermediate skiing available.

The main connect is via Téte de Saix, the high point above Samöens, with most of the connections being modified since that time. They are much more usable now from a scary point of view, which should not give any due concern from a nervous skier perspective now.
Yes, Morillon is three chairs away to Flaine area. And two coming back, one out of Flaine and then direct to Molliets chair to access direct to Morillon.
They are all decent routes, just the consideration for snow cover early season that's all. All are covered with snow making though (as I remember it) so should be ok if temperatures aren't too high.
"Terraces des eos Flaine Montsoliel" is much more generous in room sizing than some of the older French apartments and it's fairly new. A number of the prominent French agents have places there, but private rents also appears if you look via owners direct type sites that could give you more flexibility. Great steam, jacuzzi and superb outdoor pool there too. One of the best places we've stayed, with ski in out piste.

@skimummk, you might like to think about staying in Les Carroz rather than Samoens/Morillon at that time of year. The advantage is that if the conditions are poor, you are much closer by road to Flaine. Buses (payable, not ski) run between Les Carroz and Flaine several times a day so you have a good 'worst case' fallback. Having said that, they will work very hard to keep those links open even if the snow is poor. As @ski3 says, there have been loads of improvements both to scariness and also to snow-making over the last few years.
Additional new accom in Flaine at Les Terasses d'Helios, which is Pierre et Vacances, the same as Eos.

Agree with @sj1608, as we are also based in Les Carroz and drive to Flaine if the links are closed. Does not happen that that often, they work really hard on it. Much more likely to be closed for high wind, which would be an issue in any neighbouring resorts. Plenty of accommodation in LC. If you want Flaine you could look at Hameau de Flaine as well, which is further up the hill from the Helios but you would need to catch the ski bus down into Flaine each day.
