Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Tigne Le Lavachet family beginners

 Poster: A snowHead

Looking to book family trip with 5yr + 7yr olds. Found a chalet in Le Lavachet, Tignes. 30m to piste. But unclear whether there is a kids ski school in the resort, or whether need to go to Le Lac which looks like you either need to take bus or the beginner drag lift. Does anyone have any experience of this? is the drag lift suitable for a 5yr old?

None of the ski schools meet in Lavachet. The drag is suitable for a 5 year old, but the slope is not suitable for an absolute beginner, they need to start on the magic carpet in Lac. Luckily Lac is only 2 minutes by bus.

Also be aware that 30m to the piste may be one that takes you to a chairlift, might not be suitable for the beginners.

The ski schools do meet at Le Lac by the tourist office and certainly Evo2 provide transport from lower down but from Lavachet it might be easier to walk or get on the free shuttle bus (for literally one stop) depending on where your chalet is. The bus stop at Le Lac is adjacent to the ski meet area so on the Lavachet end if that makes sense. The drag is easy enough but whether it is suitable for a 5 year old (especially if it is their first trip) is hard to say if of course it's open that early? Do you know where the chalet is, ie at which end?

Thanks both. appreciate quick response.

unsure location of the chalet but this is the detail - Chalet Isabelle is a superb free-standing chalet in a fantastic location in Tignes Le Lavachet, only 30m from the piste and the Paquis and Chaudanne ski lifts.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Is that an Inghams? If so it's even closer to the bus stop than the drag, and it's uphill to the drag, a bit !

Chalet looks nice, as above for day 1 the bus is probably the best option and after that you have the option of bus or lift depending on timings. It's not far to Le Lac by any means.

Definitely the bus then! The slope from the top of the drag into Lac is too steep for most day 1 adults. Better than a day 1 ski strop!

@dibbo22, I wouldn't be wanting to bus a 5 and 7yo round to get to ski lessons. Unnecessary hassle IMO.

Any particular reason for choosing Tignes?

Is this for Feb Half Term 2020?

Big thumbs up for La Rosiere (inc Les Eucherts) for family skiing. Very family friendly and nice slopes.

Yep. That three minute bus ride could lead to tears. Puzzled

@Kenzie, maybe you're a big strong bloke who can happily carry six skis and two sticks on and off a bus whilst holding the hands of two kids who are not used to climbing up big steps with ski boots on and then trying to stop them falling over whilst the bus goes too quickly round the bends and they're standing in the aisle because either there are no seats left or the driver set off before you'd got them (and the six skis and two sticks) safely stowed.
