Poster: A snowHead
|
I'm looking for some assistance for a friend. He is 40. Strong as a bull, normal weight but had perthes as a child which was picked up late. Now hip giving pain at night and likely worn out. Wants to be active, skiing, cycling etc. Has private insurance and is willing to spend if needs be, not in any particular rush.
Who are the best surgeons for hips / this kind of thing in people's experience?

A friend had a new hip by this guy and swears by it... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derek_McMinn
He pioneered a new type of hip replacement that the NHS then adopted and subsequently mucked up by buying cheap bits. If you go for the real thing from McMinn then I gather it’s the dog’s whatsits.

Paul Gaston did mine, best guy in Scotland imo.
Specialty is younger more active patients, he skis and cycles himself so understands your needs.
Appreciate it's not local......

We asked the same question here a while back and as a result, Mrs NBT also used Derek McMinn. As mentioned above he developed a technique called Hip Resurfacing, which wasn't appropriate for Mrs NBT - and which the NHS no longer offer, possibly related to the issues mentioned by @foxtrotzulu
