Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Steep skiing - Bec des Rosses

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Following the Freeride World Tour final on Saturday, went on the annual pilgrimage up the Bec des Rosses. Hot on the climb and spicy on the way down! Amazing to see what the pros are able to do in such tough conditions!

Up to Col de la Chaux

And then onto the Bec ridge and up up up

About an hour to the top

Enjoying the views from the summit

The top pitch is a true no fall zone!

Rockier than last year and funky snow

Side slipping, rock hopping, jump turns - good test of all the skills! Excuse the bad language

http://youtube.com/v/4hKrY_J-NYQ

Gets easier from the 2nd pitch

Although adrenaline still pumping!

And finally the chance to open up a bit in the Heart zone

And some drone footage of the summit and Tim auditioning for the Vets tour in the heart zone

Good to be alive!

Not taking the pups up there! Apart from anything else, it would be grounds for immediate divorce!

I would never have had either the nerve or the technique for anything approaching that but chapeau.
Looks great and this time next week I will be looking at it and shaking my head again at what nutters do.

good stuff as usual!! Was that you "explaining" that it was a touch steep @BobinCH, ?

Also what have you done with your poles? Removed the standard grip and replaced it with foam from what I can see??

First video? Nope that was the old duffer we let go first. He’s pretty hardcore for a 57 year old. I was the one shuffling between the rocks and Tim was above heckling me to stop faffing around and get on with it... second video was my GoPro footage.

The pole is a Black Crow Furtis. The long padded grip is useful on steep traverses. Took off the straps as I don’t use them and they flap around in front of the GoPro

Good work! Did you ski down via the dogs leg couloir?

I skied it twice in the same week 6 years ago (snowpack was deep that year). Would love to get the chance to do it again.

Yes, we took the direct route from the summit into the dogleg and then cut right into the top of the heart zone looking for some elusive fresh tracks...

@BobinCH, Thanks! We took the same route down, but exited the Heart Zone (didn't know it was called that!) to the bottom skiers right instead.
