Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Considering swapping BC for Chamonix next season. Will have up to 2 months to spend there. The priority of the trip will be off piste and touring (split board). Few questions:
1. How easy is it to find touring/off-piste partners? This is probably my biggest concern. Other than posting on here any other websites or resources for this people can recommend?
2. Is February really that busy with French school holidays? I can deal with extra crowds and a bit of queuing but wondered just how bad things get.
3. Any recommendations for guide books? Ideally something aimed at the "normal" skier and not just 50°+ slopes with multiple rappels
so far I've just been using chamtopo website and fatmap but neither provides too much depth.

@boarder2020
,
There’s a couple of facebook Chamonix groups that are quite active.
Personally i would try to avoid the holiday period but if your touring then the main impact would be parking and crowded pubs etc.
The Anselme Baud guide is back in print in English, its a bit out of date and does include the extreme stuff but is a good read. There’s a few more freeride focused books.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Very easy to find touring and off piste partners, thats what most people are there for.

is good, although as jbob says there's a bunch of active chamonix facebook groups where people tout for partners.
February is very busy yes but if you're touring its fine. The bus can be a bit stressful

Thanks for the tips. Obviously impossible to predict weather but I'm looking at feb-march as hoping that's the sweet spot between enough coverage (hopefully skiing down to Chamonix possible) and before things start to get a bit warm and slushy. I could start earlier or leave later if it would make much difference
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@boarder2020
