Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Piste binding for touring boots

 Poster: A snowHead

I’m 5’10”, 70 kg and like the comfort and light weight of touring boots. Don’t need the complication and high price of touring bindings. What binding options are there that will take a touring boot (Scarpa Spirit 4).

Salomon Warden MNC 11 or the Warden MNC 13. The 11 will be perfect for your stats. There's also the Tyrolia Attack 2 14 AT.

In theory the Marker Squire ID/Griffon ID/Jester ID are MNC compliant but their AFD's won't go low enough to accommodate that boot without having to grind a bit off the boot sole.

@BertieG, I’ve used Wardens with my Scarpa Maestrales with no issues.

The problem with putting touring boots in ordinary downhill bindings is with the sole of your boots. Touring boots are made for walking in and have a high friction vibram sole so you can grip when walking. Downhill boots have an anti-friction plate that fits under your toes so that your boot will slide off the bindings when you fall. If you wear touring boots in downhill bindings there is a danger that your boots won't come out of the bindings cleanly in the event of a fall.

Whether you're happy taking that risk is of course up to you, just telling you about it that's all.

@OwenM, the bindings mentioned above are designed to take rockered touring soles into account, and are approved for their use (albeit occasionally you have to grind a little bit of sole off). The MNC = multi norm compatible (so happy with AT, downhill, WTR soles...).

On my Dynafit Ones I just cut out a section of sole and epoxied in a spare friction plate. Behold... the Frankenboot. Been doing great for about 7-8 years.
