Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

jillou, welcome to snowHeads. French trains are very cheap. If the timings suit your flight arrival, train first to Chambery then change and go to Moutiers. Where if you are lucky, you could perhaps bum a lift on a T.O. coach going up to Merihell. Lots of Brit T.O.s use Moutiers Station Car Park as an interchange point where they break down large busloads from the airports into smaller buses or minibuses going up the individual valleys.

Come to think of it, you could try joining a T.O. coach all the way from Lyons Airport carpark...... If they have space available, a few Euros to the Transfer Rep might do the trick. wink

If you want to book in advance on line (min 7 days before) here's a region-wide bus company that will do the return trip Aeroport de Lyon / \ Meribel Centre for 86 Euros.

Hope this helps.

jillou, welcome to snowHeads! snowHead

I had a look at trains from Lyon to Moutiers and they looked reasonable - the other possibility is www.altibus.com. They were charging about £45 per person for Geneva to Val Thorens, so I'd guess that Lyon to Meribel is comparable, perhaps a little less.

Ian Hopkinson, beat me to the edit.
BTW that web site is a bit unreliable but I have got it to work as far as a timetable and prices at least once ....... doesn't seem to make much difference whether you try it in French or English. Can crash equally spectacularly in either. rolling eyes Seems to take nearly 4 hours up and 3.5 down for Lyons/Merihell. Usually 2 buses per day - mid morning and mid arvo

jillou, welcome to snowheads, there is a bus service fro Lyons (St Exupery) airport to ski stations. If you go to the Lyons airport website you'll find details in Access et Stationment re SATOBUS, they have a desk in the arrivals hall.

David@traxvax, I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that Satobus just handle the service from Lyon airport to Lyon town, and that Altibus have taken over the transfer to ski station business.

Ian Hopkinson, yes, but the desk in the arrivals hall is still run by Satobus.
