rob@rar.org.uk, According to the BBC News to-day, the Aussies have been inspired by their performance in the moguls and aerials, which is something to do with their future funding.
I am not in "know" but does GB sports get involved with this sort of investment?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

yeah - they have been training gymnasts/trampolinists to be aerialists with success for a while now... (they can train jumping into a big heap of water in our summer)
Check these names out
Alisa Camplin
Jacqui Cooper
there are a bunch more too...
All started after Kirsty marshall's success.....
and the moguls gold... well you might want to think on why a canadian would ever choose australia to train once he had decided to leave canada? Surely USA was closer? or even Europe/UK? so why go around the world and to the flatest place - NZ has better mountains and snow available.....
The AIS folks do sort of know their stuff.... even if it does mean grabbing great coaches from other countries and setting them up down under....
They have gymnasts to spare to train because a while ago they decided to train gymnasts....and went all out on that...
All started a few years back when we did badly at a summer Olympics... they could not handle it and set up stuff like the AIS to ensurfe we did better next time around.... Check out the swimmers records... or the cyclists, triathletes, rowers, etc...

little tiger, I admire the enthusiasm of the Aussies. It's remarkable we won the "ashes". Perhaps there is some hope for us "poms" at the next winter olympics. I certainly hope so after our lack lustre performance. That's not against our folks who took part, but rather against our governing bodies.

cricket... blah... silly sport... the seagulls are the most interesting part of that game..... bunch of (usually) tubby guys poncing around in dirty white clothes(never the same color top as bottom) some of whom will be scratching their crotch...
60,441,457 poms
20,509,910 aussies
32,475,002 canadians (climate closer to UK maybe?)
wanna compare stats? per head of population? could be fun.....
Oh wait... we have commonwealth games records..... shall we check them for the last few?
2002
1 Australia 82 62 63 207
2 England 54 51 60 165
3 Canada 31 41 44 116
1998
1 Australia 80 61 57 198
2 England 36 47 53 136
3 Canada 30 31 38 99
1994
1 Australia 87 52 43 182
2 Canada 40 42 46 128
3 England 31 45 49 125
funnily enough many people laugh at the idea of following sports training advice from the AIS.... I sit and chuckle... (having lived around the corner from the place for a while and with a couple of friends who trained there)

little tiger, your point? That Australians are good at running about and jumping? They must be very proud.

richmond, if they had been better at running and jumping, they wouldn't have been caught and sent there in the first place...

You're only out by about 10 million there. (The United Kingdom is made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland)

Of course the Aussies are better at running and jumping, it's a basic skill they develop after puberty.
The Kiwis have it better as the sheep are easier to catch.

Another interesting fact:
UK: population: 60million. Sheep: 35million. That works out at about 1 sheep for every male.
Aus: population: 20million. Sheep: 120million. That's about 12 sheep for every male.

Another interesting fact, if all those those called "Sheila" or "Bruce" left there'd only be about 250,000 Aussies left.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Is suspect this may have more to do with the fact that he was entitled to Australian citizenship.
Also based on the fact that he apparently left after the Canadians wanted him at training instead of running his internet startup company - I suspect Australia not being an 'Alpine' nation may have been a little more relaxed with respect to a mogul skier wanting to run a business at the same time as representing them nationally. After all, a little bit of a bonus to inherit somebody like that even it comes with provisos like allowing him to pursue other interests.
Your other comments are very valid though ...
