So...here's the outcome - http://www.snowmediazone.com/the_zone/showphoto.php/photo/2570/cat/500/ppuser/384
I managed to hit a tree last week. My apologies, my PC isn't as smart as my camera so you'll need to view rotated.
The slope was around 35 degrees. My chums legs are above as she hooted with laughter.
Question: While heli skiing a couple of years ago, the US contingent were amazed we didn't ski with helmets especially in trees. I think shin guards would have been a much better idea. The branch that "broke" my momentum is to the right of the tree...
I will admit I am lucky to be in one piece.
What do you think?

David Murdoch, Looks as if it could have severely damaged any plans of having a family to me. A cricket box perhaps

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

David Murdoch,
Undoubtedly yes; if you had worn it under your Jock strap

David Murdoch, I bet you wouldn't have been smiling if you'd gone another 12 inches. Lucky your stopping technique was up to scratch. Yes a cricket box may be useful in the future.

halfhand, my stopping technique isn't as good as it looks. I hit the tree.
I had three consecutive thoughts:
1. hands in front of face
2. sit down and put boots in front of shins
3. sh*t. CLOSE LEGS!!!
Panic then ensued. Especially amongst friends who just heard me yelp and then the branch breaking. They assumed it was my leg.

Did you say sorry to the tree and give it a hug so it would know you really didnt mean it ?
Damn holidays are finished back to work - ............................

David Murdoch, typical tree, did it leap into your path inconsiderately when you least expected it?

slikedges, The snow was quite cut up and a little unpredictable. I got one turn slightly wrong and was catapulted treewards. Could have all turned out very differently.
I think it's known as bark-munching.

David Murdoch, You were lucky. I met an instructor that had collided with a tree. You could tell that her face had been re-built. Didnt one of the Kennedy's come off 2nd best with a tree whilst filming the family?

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

David Murdoch, hope at least it was quality bark. Woof!

Weren't they playing football (American, presumably)? Or was that Sonny Bono?
Since David Murdoch's head looks alright (relatively speaking), presumably a helmet wouldn't have helped at all, unless he'd worn it on his helmet.

You know it makes sense.

Saw soneone that had hit the trees above Les Crosets in betweent he slalom run and the two runs more to the right as you look at them.
That was a very floppy body afterwards but at least the head wasnt covered when they put that person on the stretcher.
Hope they are well now..

Annehillskiing, Definitely. Frosty the Snowman, agreed, trees are not good things to run into. I wasn't travelling particularly fast, otherwise I might not be typing this.

Only advice I've been given for tree skiing was "to look at the gaps, not look at the trees". Seemed a stupid comment at the time, but after a few hours it became clear that it was good advice.

JT, Well, I think they know if you're on their side - now I always try to avoid hurting the little trees, so I reckon the mummy and daddy trees are nice to me inreturn!
