Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The tunnel was quiet this morning at 11:45 and took only 20 mins to get through and on the train. They are expecting big delays and were told to open all lanes today due to the sheer volume of traffic. For those that left very early, the roads were very quiet.

Are most people here driving back today ? We're having our last day skiing and will do the short trip to south germany for a overnight stay travelling back to uk tomorrow. Does this mean that the eurotunnel will not be too busy at 9pm tomorrow ?

Reasonably smooth journey to Calais. Now stuck in holding area for tunnel - zero chance of getting booked departure

Why they ask you to arrive no more then 2 hours early I don’t know you have to to get booked departure.

Don’t know why ferries manage to get you on booked crossing

@Boris, we almost always get on our booked train unless we've arrived late, but I guess we rarely travel on a peak weekend.

Skied today, lovely quiet pistes, the only day they weren't getting horribly swept. Best day off the week. Just left Val Cenis for overnighter at Beaune. Half hour later than planned but hopefully in time to feed the animals before bed. Lovely week, would have liked a a top of snow /powder day but c'est la vie and one can't complain about the sunshine

Would seem to make more sense if they got you to check in and then direct you to holding area?

That’s the system the ferries use and seems to work

Arras for la boucherie. Pretty horrible traffic all day. I don’t bother with the tunnel anymore. Ferry every time now and have a meal on board. £10 for priority boarding and get the pick of tables. Definitely a roof box migration.

Can see the attraction of ferry and use it from time to time. However this time of year personally don’t fancy it Skullie

Zoomed up the autobahns from Achensee to Brussels without any problems. Bit slow due to rubber neckers following a smash on the other carriageway just north of Munich but plain sailing after that.

Left Grand Massif at 7:45 this morning, hour stop for lunch and a couple of 20 minute leg-stretch/ coffee breaks, and made it to the tunnel at 18:10, on a train an hour earlier than normal and in our front door at 9:30. Nice and easy. Gutted to be home!

Long day - left Les Arcs at 0520 - relatively smooth until inevitable delay at Tunnel (arrived there 1615) Assuming the only way to surmount that is to throw money at the problem and Flexiplus... seems so much extra!

@Spin Doctor, we were 50 mins late departing, was a pain but can't see the point paying hundreds more to avoid it. Flexiplus lounge looked rammed when we passed it!

On way out, biggest queue to check in was flexiplus as well Toofy Grin

I have flexi whenever I travel but they seem to be selling more of them now so the queues are getting longer and at the end of the day the delays in Calais are due to the slow border control and not the checkin part. The real benefit of flexi is being able to simply turn up well outside your booked time and get on the next available train. The new flexi lounge is better but they ran out of food on the Friday before half term in the uk because apparently it was busy!

Very quiet here at Dunkirk. Only two on passport control, one until just before we got there.

Still can't understand how a country with so much space can come up with such crap motorway junctions. Usual big queues at both Troyes and Reims.

Just arrived at Eurotunnel. Got sent to the holding area, but have just driven round and straight through it to join the check in line. At some point soon they will start holding cars in that area, I guess.

Got to check booth in 15 mins after our arrival at Eurotunnel, but I can see that cars are now being held in the ‘pre check in area’ behind us. We’ve managed to get allocated a 1236 train(an hour earlier than the one we booked), but it’ll take us a while to get through passport control as there is a big queue for that.

Left Beaune at a leisurely 9am and filled up at the Carrefour. Usual breakfast of orange juice cartons and cereal bars in the car to save time and touch wood not had to stop yet. Just past Saint Quentin and roads have been a joy. One gendarmerie with a radar by a bridge between Dijon and Troyes. Just seen another who'd pulled a French plated xc90., just after Saint Quentin.

Steady steam off Brit plates heading North. Had to chuckle at the Brit plated van that had a big bold vote leave sticker in the back window. Just tickled me, akin to waving a steak Tartare under a vegetarians nose.

Managed to get allocated 1206 crossing (booked on 1236) so didn't have time to collect some lunch. They started to wave us all forward to board the train then stopped us with no explanation. 1206 came and went. Then a real ham-fisted attempt to get us into the next train. Now sat on train at 1240, first on, waiting for train to depart. Very frustrating experience

Left Maçon just before 9 and a steadily increasing number of Discos and roofboxes on GB plates as we head north. Roads remarkably clear so we've just brought our booking forward 2 hours. That's it now til SFaB.

We are waiting at Eurotunnel- booked on 13:50 arrived at 11:50. We’ve been allocated on the 13:06 hanger X. We were intitially taken through the overflow holding area for about 15 mins and have had long queues at each stage but very organised. Now at final stage waiting in the pre-boarding rows.

Good run, no toilet stops and a quick fuel fill up at the Carrefour a few km before the tunnel.

Arrived at the tunnel at 13.40. 3 check in lanes for Flexi plus, so checked in within 2 mins.

Swung out of the flexi queue after checkin and joined slightly shorter queue in the main lane for border. Through border controls by 13.50. Huge cluster nut of traffic after the border to get to the roundabout for the terminal/trains. Seems to be caused by a cram to get into the flexi plus lane which is clogged by a slow automatic barrier. 10 minutes to get to the roundabout. Keep right it flows quicker, even if flexi plus you can cut left after the roundabout.

Another 5 minute queue for the flexi plus lounge car park and chaos inside but in the car in the pre loading lane with bag loads of food by 14.20. On the train loading ramp at 14.25. Train departed at 14.37. Not bad.
