Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Driving back to GVA airport last Saturday from Meribel, we came to the tolls exiting the A41(?) just before Geneva and there were quite a few 'gilets jaunes' there. In our lane they appeared to have bent up the barrier and put something over where one would normally stick the ticket in, with a sign saying it was free today. So we just drove through seemingly paying nothing. However, as we were driving a friend's car which we had borrowed, which had a tag in one of the compartments and which we were not wanting to use, I'm just wondering whether the tag automatically registered as we drove through and whether our friend will get charged. I suppose we will find out from him in due course but I'm confused anyway on how these tags work
Lots of gilets jaune were out at Moutiers, Albertville

@Villz
, did you hear a beep from the tag? If so then yes it will be charged - but as you/your friend would have been expecting to be charged it's not an issue.
Tags have very short range connectivity and are picked up by sensors as you drive through - it registers where you enter and leave and charges accordingly. To avoid using it, take it off windscreen and stick in glovebox
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Villz
, tag is detected by a sensor, so maybe they had covered it up too? You can usually hear a beep if it is activated. We saw some on both outbound and return trips, but none at our toll booths.

In my car the readers have enough trouble reading the tag when it's sat in the windscreen so if it was in the glove box or something you should be fine.
