Poster: A snowHead
|
Got a couple of trips pencilled in this year. If possible, I'd like to get in some off piste with a guide, but quite franksly I can;t afford to pay for a personal guide. I know that in SOME resorts, there are ski schools who run groups that you can book on to, as opposed to hiring a guide for yourself. A couple of examples I've found from searching this forum are Flaine Super Ski who charge €45, and ISki-Val who charge €65 for a morning's guided off piste.

Can anyone recommend such an outfit in Meribel, and in Samoens (we'd be staying between Samoens and Morillon, rather than in Flaine, sadly)

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I have done off-piste in Meribel with:

This was for me and a mate having two mornings for circa £150
About 10 years ago a few half-day 'how to' sessions with New Generation in Meribel
I did a few mornings with ESF in Les Coches a few years ago. French speaking group but okay. They have a similar set up in Meribel.

Samoens may have similar

We (wifey+I) will be in Flaine, and we have a guide/instructor that cost (last year) €50/hour, If there were three of us we'd be doing three hours at €50 a head.
We've done this before and three hours is about as much as we can do without a break. It's not 'guiding' as such, more a lesson, but we've done them out of resort and walked back (you have skins?). We plan to do more this year, and more trips rather than lessons, so potentially they'll be a little dearer (read longer). If you have a friend I think four is the most he will take.
Depends when you will be in Samoens?
If you can switch your Meribel trip to Tignes I can recommend Floss (https://www.seetignes.com/locals/floss-ski-coach-and-director-at-freeflo-ski-instruction-tignes-region-712386), we had a great couple of mornings with her and a bunch of random Kiwis a couple of years ago. Wasn't expensive and was basically just a guided morning with a group of whoever turned up on the day. She seems to be working for herself now, so it may not be the same format, but maybe worth looking into.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks folks. Trips booked so changing resorts is not an option. Will ask the ESF in Samoens if they can help.
