I'm a great fan of their non-wool (cheapy) base layers, also jackets, trousers and much other equipment for walking, climbing and snowsports, including rucksacks. Wear the cheaper base layers year round every day (until it's properly warm). Mr G is a frequent user of their higher end socks for walking and boarding and they stand up well to wear; the cheaper ones are good enough for the price also I use for everyday wear).
Generally good quality, good price.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

We've only got the kids stuff, but the gloves and socks are very warm, very good value tbh!

@dave_3, yes, good value stuff. Aldi and Lidl also have these sort of things at good prices, eg merino base layers.
SnowHeads usually alerted to their sale dates with a thread on here.

I often buy stuff like that from Decathlon. My ski socks from there are great and I have bought fleeces as extra layers.

I bought some cheap gloves for fridge skiing from them and they are exactly that - no way I'd wear them on the mountain. That said some of their better stuff looks very good value indeed.

Like all shops they have their really good bargains, average value items and high profit ( rubbish) items. I had some really good value gloves from them 2 years ago which when 6 months in and some serious use some stitching started to unpick they exchanged without quibble. Got a bargain on some Rossi skis which I sold on Ebay the start of the following season for more than I paid.

I've got a couple of their cheap and cheerful 'simple warm' base layer tops. Simple and warm they are, but they do tend towards the stinky side of synthetics (or that could just be me!). About £6 a shot if I remember rightly......

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Decathlin is our family's go to ace for sporting gear now. At least as a starting point.
I've had some more price merino bar layers for the family that have been excellent value. I've got a pair of saloppettes that are quite good, if a bit heavy.
Then we bought two pairs of gloves last Easter which barely lasted a couple of days before seams split. They hadn't been expensive, but any gear that fails is a false economy.
So definitely worth a look, but maybe keep in mind that some kit is more tolerant of failure than others.

You know it makes sense.

Do not get the lowest price items -- go for Level 2, and avoid the highest priced stuff, as noted above. Our strategy for our kids has been to buy socks, baselayers and fleece there but spend a little more on jackets/pants/gloves from a "name" brand. For adult stuff, I tend to buy higher-quality stuff because it will last longer, false economy and all that.
Having said that, you do indeed see tons of French skiers happily sporting Decathlon stuff year after year...

These days I would always approach my local high end shop and ask if they have any last season in the back or anything really good value. This is how I got my Norrona Lofoten pro trousers for £100. Some fashionista handed them back because they had a tiny scuff mark. Bought from Ellis Brigham
I buy Mons Royalle base layers in the sale from Blues for 1/2 price and thy are top notch. I agree with most people, Never go low end (cheap and nasty) never go high end from decathlon (paying for bling) but high middle tier is good.
My golden rule in skiing is..... if you are hanging around, get good warm stuff. If you are not hanging around, get good breathing stuff. If you are in the middle, most general stuff is fine.
