Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Febuary only has 28 days in it so much better to have full month of snow in March. I wonder if anywhere in the Pennines still has a tiny blob of white stuff..

I doubt it. Cross Fell, viewed from across the valley (near Yad) a couple of weekends ago, had only marginal patchy white streaks. With the sweltering temperatures we're currently having, it'd have to be hiding down a dark, deep hole - and be very tiny (Peter or someone will now produce a photo of it, no doubt.)

Blencathra and Helvellyn had snow patches on Saturday which given the very dry air are probably still there today. Don’t know about Cross Fell.

Just thinking out loud but next snowfall maybe members across the Pennines atleast a 1000+ could store a black bag or two of snow in the freezers then join forces and produce a Red Bull style home run in Alston. Of course with no snow sensibly thinking its wiser to just scrape out the freezers an have a bob sleigh track.

Yay!!! Snow, lots of snow. Very Happy Very Happy
Very Happy First real fall of the year for me, very decent (or annoying, if you're out driving) amount up on Alston Moor and over the N Pennines. Might be useable tomorrow for a skin/walk up at least? (And the road up there for me is now closed for 13 weeks for roadworks. Joy... Sad )
Now let's see if it lasts. Not very cold here at all, and lots of dark blue on the BBC weather for Tuesday onwards - so whether it stays white over the tops or not... Puzzled

Yes Grizzler, just updated the snow report. We hope to run tomorrow but it will be a little rough Laughing

Wet heavy snow arrives around lunchtime and the wind then picks up from the west. Wrap up and be prepared for some winter driving over the high roads later on Toofy Grin

An Exhilarating day at Yad Moss. The westerly wind eventually overcame gravity But this morning had some surprisingly smooth skiing despite the thin cover. Heavy snow fell during the morning improving conditions.......a bit. It also scoured other areas. Riding the poma was an oasis of calm up until the summit. Will go down as day four of the season.Wear dale also ran today.

Raise is scheduled to run tomorrow. Could be very good on the westerly drifts. The LDSC Webcam is looking good this afternoon and more showers have been streaming in this evening.

Pretty decent session at Weardale today.

It snowed heavily from our arrival at about 10.30, with reasonable cover of up to 10cm - though a little thin in places we managed some fresh tracks Smile . Snow was slow and sticky underfoot for the max. 20 members who were there.

The wind strengthened throughout the day, leading to some pretty wild conditions, although we did have about two minutes of sun.

Best summarised as a typical Pennines day for those who just enjoy getting out there for a slide - and far better than a trip to the Metro Centre (or similar) wink. Glad we made the effort as Pennines March turns are always to be welcomed. Let's just hope there's more snow to come....
