Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

1 non skiier suggestions for nice hotel with a spa

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
SO the plan is to go away this Christmas for the week over Christmas. We usually do self catering and the accommodation is just that.

This Christmas, because we have someone who won't be able to ski, we want to go to a hotel where there is stuff to keep them occupied while the rest of us ski.

Can anyone suggest a nice hotel? Generally we are thinking Austria but we are open minded.

@rumdiary, The Victoria Lauberhorn hotel in Wengen has a lovely spa complex. Wengen also has the advantage for a non-skier that with the mountain railway and cable car from the village it's easy for a non-skier to meet up with the skiers for lunch on the mountain. Plus of course world famous scenery (Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains). N.B For the skiers if you order your lift passes online at least 21 days beforehand you get a 20% discount.

Apart from making your own travel arrangements (get flights, transfer by swiss rail to resort and book with hotel direct) I believe the tour operator TUI (Crystal etc) also use the Victoria Lauberhorn.

The Adler in Ortisei is a proper 5 star with a wonderful spa. Dunno what the snow will be like though.

Savoie France; smaller town with baths/spas in several hotels - notably the Savoy Hôtel. Extensive skiing!

Been a while since I was there, but the Impuls Tirol in Bad Hofgastein had once of the nicest Spas of any of the hotels I've stayed in. It's also in a Spa town, so your non-skier can visit the main town spa, Non-skier can also get the bus up to Angertal (the main ski hub) to meet for lunch or après drinks and there's a train station for day trips to Salzburg. I quite like Bad Hofgastein as a town. Just up the road is Bad Gastein, which is full of very faded grand old hotels which I find strangely creepy. https://www.hotel-tirol.at/en/ for more info. I think we booked via Crystal or Inghams, so it's available via one of the main British tour operators if you want a package.

Another idea would be to go to St Anton. It's also a proper town with plenty bars/restaurants etc and the main town Spa is pretty impressive. All the hotels there with their own spas are out of my price range, so I don't know how good they are.

How about the Bains de Saillon in Switzerland?

It's bang in the middle of over 30 resorts that are covered by various areas passes such as the Valais Skipass and the Magic Pass. also nearby is Verbier and the satellites of Nendaz and La Tzoumaz.

Saillon is between Martigny and Sion in the French-speaking part of the Swiss Rhone Valley and both towns are worth a visit with Martigny having the famous Giannada Foundation as well:

The area is roughly 90 minutes on autoroutes by car from Geneva airport, and also doable by efficient Swiss trains. Closer to the season, you should also see some offers on the Swiss Tourism and SBB rail sites:

Depends if you want to be sure of the Christmas card look with snow all around. If you go low you risk the village in particular being green and even lower slopes being snow- cannoned strips. Its a risk you would have to consider. In 2016 it would have been a problem below 1000 feet but in 2017 you would have been fine everywhere.

Obergurgl is high enough to be a snowsure as possible in Austria and has a good number of nice hotels with great Spa facilities etc.

As for particular hotels to recommend there the nicest in terms of quality for money that I've been to is the Alpina, A bit dearer again is the Bergwelt and if you really want to splash the cash the Hochfirst is fabulous. There's also some nice slightly cheaper ones than those three.

Skiing is fine for a week and you are also ski-bus linked into Sölden if you want a bit more territory.

As @robboj, said, Obergurgl will definitely have snow and the Bergwelt has a lovely spa, friendly staff and fabulous food. But there's not a lot else for the non skier to do there. @Alastair Pink, recommended the Victoria Lauerhorn and it does have a great pool/spa although personally I didn't rate the food as highly. There are a lot of things to do in Wengen but I wouldn't risk it at Christmas. It could be mostly green.

My favourite ski hotel is the Alpine Palace, Hinterglemm. Top notch food, indoor and outdoor pools, great spa facilities and a massive ski area. If, of course, there's enough snow! Again, I don't know how much there is for a non skier to do, but Saalbach is a nice walk along the river/canal (it's water, anyway!) My friend walked it when she wanted a day off skiing and met us there for lunch.

If the skiers are prepared to travel daily (free ski buses), have you considered somewhere like Innsbruck?
