Hi Folks, newbie to the forums as am a potential member of the ACL club (last Friday VdI). Just waiting on appointment w consultant next week and hopefully MRI thereafter. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations/experience with an orthopod in the Sussex/Brighton/West Kent area.

Hi, and a sad welcome if you do indeed have to join us.
No knowledge of your area myself, but by train you should be able to get to Wimbledon Clinics (Jonathan Bell & colleagues) if looking for a well-recommended private specialist.
NHS-wise, you could Google people, if you have a choice (many will also have private practice work)?
Otherwise, private-wise, Google people, see how many ops they do, specialisms, specialist interests, etc.
The 'Knee Guru' site may be of help. They used to have a list of well-regarded clinicians to search.
Good luck, speedy recovery.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I have no experience of The Horder Centre with relation to ACL injuries but they have an excellent reputation, and have sucsessfilly replaced both of my mother's knees (referred by her GP so done on the NHS)
Good luck with getting it sorted hopefully it isn't as bad as it seems.

Thanks Grizzler, KneeGuru doesn't seem to get down to Sussex, but lots of useful reading materials.
Good to hear about Horder Centre experience Pieman, this is confirmation from other discussions that they have an excellent reputation, and I had heard that their consultant Paul Gibb is recommended for ACL.
So sounds like a good option if i have to go that route.
Cheers

Thanks Margaret, I am looking at a referral to the Horder centre through my GP. I am over 50 so interested in someone who is happy to operate in an older patient.

+ 2 for Paul Gibb, did my right ACL twice for me. Make sure you get a physio experienced in ACL rehab as well.

Thanks Bod, working on getting the referral to Paul Gibb at the Horder Centre. I think that there are ACL rehab classes in Brighton and Hove, so will make sure I get signed up to one of those. Cheers

Cheers Bod. Just getting my physio for ongoing rehab sorted now. That rehab seems to be key to getting a good end result.
