 Poster: A snowHead

I'm driving to Samoens on 31st March from Calais, and it's looking pretty snowy. I'm not sure whether the snow will get as low as resort level, but if it does can anyone recommend whether I should go via Cluses which means quite a windy climb to get to the main road to Samoens, or via Mieussy which looks like a straighter road.
I've driven it quite a few times before, but always from Cluses.
Anyone got any suggestions?

Other than the fact you go up and over at Chatillon to go from Cluses, I don't think there'd be much difference. I don't recall either route having major problems (although we don't go that way all that often) and we have gone via Cluses in pretty heavy late season snow (about 20-30cms fresh in GME car park on arrival).

The climb from Cluses isn't really windy at all, no real hairpins all quite open 180 degree corners and the whole route is fairly flowing with a couple of two lane sections (iirc one of them is roudn a 180)
The route you really want to use is the one off at J17 then Marignier and then pick up the Cluses to Chatillon road at the last hairpin before the Col, over the top and them straight run through to Samoens!
There's a really nice Carrefour near the J17 ideal for picking up provisions before resort and fuel with decent additive!

Thanks everyone - weather forecast is showing quite heavy snow that day, although obviously that could change.
Thanks marcellus - that looks like an interesting option. I'm in convoy with my brother who's driving his family, and they're not confident drivers so just want to find whichever is likely to be the simplest, even if it's much slower.

Put it this way; most of the transfer drivers specialising in the Grand Massif use it, there's not a single corner on it, from memory 3 roundabouts, 2 left and 2 right turns!

The snow line is currently above about 1000m+ and the valley into Samoens is snow free - yes theres that little hilly bit around Cluses but I doubt that it will be a problem unless the weather changes dramatically (which of course it can being in the mountains) - but I think the forecast is your friend at the moment. Coming back yesterday, we stayed on the main road through Cluses to get to the A40 quicker and that was definitely an easier road (and 2 mins quicker than the satnav route).
