Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Slalom ski length

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

Hopefully a quick one! I'm looking to get my own skis and take up a bit if Slalom training at Chill Factore. I've seen quite a few people say go for 155cm length but looking at Snowsport UK website it states the min length for Mens Slalom is 165cm. I doubt I'll compete as it'll just be a bit of fun for me but just wondered if someone could clarify when the minimum lengths come in to play? Fun races, inter club etc?

Thanks.

Everyone on plastic uses 155cm --- the min length does not apply to club and fun races.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

The minimum length of 165cm only applies when racing on snow outdoors. One further exception to this is Masters (over 30) races where you can use whatever you want.

Ahh OK perfect, thanks for that. Think I'll look around 155cm then.

OK, I've got a short list of three. I know all three will be above my skill level but given the sales are on I thought I'd get some even if I put them in the cupboard for a bit and use the rentals. Anyway:

Elan Slx Fusion 155cm
Dynastar Speed Zone 12ti 158cm
Atomic Redster X7 163cm

All are within the same price range

I'm 5'10 and 80kg. I'd class myself as intermediate, I don't mind if they throw me around a bit while I'm still learning, I'd rather get something that'll last me a couple of years.

Why not ask the coaches at CFe for advice ?

@Bash82, Lot's of folk at my club use the Elans -- ditto @rjs, I'd ask at CFe what goes well there.

You may find Ebay or Skibay on Facebook contain some secondhand bargains.

You won't need skis to start the training -- the rental ones will be fine for a session or two first.

Well it was my intention to ask the coaches tonight as I thought there was an Intro to Racing course but it's either changed or I'm seeing things as now the next date for it is 4th April.
