Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Val Thorens 4th of May. Will there be any snow?

Hi guys. I am planning to go to Val Thorens for a short break 4th of May till 8th of May. Do you know what is like there very late in the season? Apparently the resort is opened till 8th of May. Never been to Val Thorens before. Cheers.

I'm going on 30th April and am confident of snow. I asked a similar question on here and got the answer "Val Thorens closes because it runs out of punters, not because it runs out of snow". Not only did that give me a whole chunk of confidence but it also gave me a handy quote to recite back to anyone in the office questioning why I'm going so late in the season. Can't remember who said it originally, but thank you anyway!

PS.. Personally I think VT in the sun is glorious!! Enjoy!

There will be snow. Some of the surrounding mountainsides may be a little green/brown, but the pistes will be white... and orange!

LOL Laughing That, Sir, was me. Glad it helped. Will be truer than ever this season! Wouldn't surprise me at all if they extend the opening dates to at least the following weekend this year but they'll need to announce it soon to get some bookings. There's a chance I'll be there for the end of season this year so feel free to buy me a beer! wink IMO April/May is the best time to be in VT.

In the interests of transparency, I'm pretty sure I adapted that quote from the reason I was told by a Canuck why Lake Louise closes in the first week of May. Laughing Laughing Laughing
