Hi - we're used to staying with companies like Mountain Sun and Silver Ski, great companies, typically long transfers. This time however we have booked for a long weekend flying to Geneva and (probably) hire a car, and look to stay less than 90 minutes away.
Any suggestions for where to base ourselves much appreciated, there are lots around I know but don't know any of them, like to ski far and widein resorts but could stay somewhere and drive to different small resorts each day (3 days) or somewhere with access to a single bigger resort. Mainly on piste, red runs, don't mind the odd pisted black but don't search them out.
Thanks ... Simon.

@risb98, Flaine at least an hour.
Everywhere has good snow right now.
When do you arrive however, as this weekend is the start of the Paris hols and UK half term...
Personally, I’d go Portes du Soleil, if it’s not this weekend. Lots of blue and red cruising and more mileage than the Grand Massif (Flaine)

Not even in the inter-season in a high powered car would that be possible...... not that I ever tried
To start with you have 15km from the airport to France at a very fiercely enforced 90kmh, then there's a camera just before right hand bend at ANnemasse(110kmh) dropping even more for the corner, through the peage at 25km after the border (even with a doofer it's 30kmh) and on to Junction 19 which is 30km after the peage, through another peage right at the lights left at the roundabout and here a good car will come into its' own a fantastic 9km hill climb with c13 decent corners on (mind the overhang) and 2 speed bumps as you go past the Maries in Araches, slow for Les Carroz and then boot it again for the final 11km climb to the col with 14 more great corners, before you drop the final 5km in to Flaine itself allowing the brakes to cool!!
I think you're more likely to take about 90minutes for the whole 88km which is about the same as Morzine or Chamonix.

That's still French school holidays. Paris holidays (the worst) end 3 March. You'll be lucky to find anything cheap!

PdS great for piste skiing and lots of mileage - but Morzine is very low in case temps go up. Consider Le Chable for Verbier if you are a confident red run skier. It’s just about doable in 90m from GVA on a clear run. You start your skiing from Les Ruinettes at 2200m same as the Verbier based - just have to spend an extra 8 mins on the gondola. There’s usually a decent Airbnb selection

@BobinCH, ah, yes, not bad.
Or just let the train take the strain? GVA-Le Chable

@under a new name, yes but 2h15m and 115chf return. Not heard of la Grande Terche although what about La Clusaz? It was good enough for Candide Thovex!

La Grande Terche is satellite to Morzine on the left by St Jean d'Aulps.... a small ski area itself and no bus links to main Pds resorts iirc.

I suspect La Clusaz will be very busy. Though the Saturday - with Parisian hordes leaving and others arriving - might be a good day to be on the hill.

@simonx, you can’t do the circuit each way,it’s clockwise, unless I have misunderstood what you are meaning. One of our favourite runs all the same!
